Howdy everyone, I’m Henry Portable. I am very happy to be selected for this month, and I hope you all enjoy the prompts I’ve made, which you can find in the notes of this list. I tried to keep them as diverse as possible so you can explore the wide world of cinema as best as we can.

DAY 1 - May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage month.
Watch a movie written or directed by someone AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander)
DAY 2 - May 2nd is my birthday, and this year is the first time in 4 years that I’ve been able to celebrate my birthday in Oregon, my home state. Oregon means a lot to me.

DAY 4 - now it’s May the 4th, and it would be wrong to not make it something Star Wars related but I want to make sure there’s lots of options.

Day 5 - my favorite movie of all time, one that will always mean a lot to me, is David Lowery’s the Green Knight.

DAY 11 - I’m fascinated by the idea of sequels, but legacy sequels especially.

DAY 12 - I’m currently planning on getting my first tattoo during this month, and I’m still deciding what it is.

DAY 13 - I’m an avid DVD collector who buys movies much faster than I watch them. At least faster than I watch the ones I buy

DAY 15 - I’m an avid history buff; as an aspiring screenwriter, I lean towards historical epics, historical action, all that good stuff. However, I’m mostly interested in writing about non-European cultures.

DAY 17 - one of my favorite things about movies is how each and every one, regardless of its subject, is a study of humanity. That’s particularly interesting in movies that feature no humans.

DAY 18 - I recently watched my first Gregg Araki movie, and it got me really interested in the New Queer Cinema movement. New Queer Cinema was largely born out of the AIDS crisis, and may 18th is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day.

DAY 19 - May 19th is the day I graduate from college! It’s a weird feeling!

DAY 21 - my favorite game series, and one that’s influenced me as a creative greatly, is the SoulsBorne series. My favorite is BloodBorne.

DAY 22 - my cinephile journey is always evolving. Recently, I’ve been interested in old genre movies, especially by some of the old masters. There’s a few directors who work in genre that I love.

DAY 23 - on a similar note to the last prompt, I’ve loved a lot of old sci-fi movies. I love 2001: a Space Odyssey, but there’s something very satisfying about seeing sci-fi from before the most influential sci-fi movie.

DAY 24 - I’ve been enjoying the work of Robert Bresson lately. I won’t make you watch anything by him, though.

DAY 27 - I’ve been watching all of the James Bond movies over the last few years with a good friend of mine.

DAY 28 - Martin Scorcese is, I think, the most important filmmaker working today. Not only for his skill at directing but for his love and appreciation for filmmaking as a whole.

DAY 29 - I host a podcast where my cohost and I are working through a tournament bracket we made to determine the best movie of the 2010’s. A big part of the podcast is treating the movies as a double feature, so we’ve gotten good at finding good double features.
