I made myself an 1890s shirtwaist. I'd shared I planned to make one, when I wrote about my corset cover. Since then, I've actually finished it and it's appeared in two separate blog posts (the one about my apron, and the one about the belt), but I haven't actually told you how the shirtwaist came to be. So, I figured it was about time to share all those fun details. Once I finished altering my 1890’s plaid wool skirt, a shirtwaist was the next logical project. A skirt can't be worn alone…

Tally Sharples on Instagram: "Let’s turn a modern shirt to a vintage style blouse. I’m using my trusted blouse pattern for this (Etsy, VintagePatternsSewingBI: Vintage 1930’s vintage sewing pattern: WWII Women’s suit) with the sleeve coming from the Sophie Hatter costume pattern I like to use (Etsy, FashionPatternStudio: Victorian Inspired daily dress). I was able to reuse the button front and the sleeves, so this entire process took me less than two hours ✨" Button Up Blouse Pattern, Old Sewing Patterns, Victorian Sewing, Cottagecore Shirt Pattern, Dark Academia Sewing Patterns, Victorian Patterns Sewing, Victorian Shirt Pattern, Waistcoat Sewing Pattern, Victorian Sewing Patterns

Nany is talking about her 1900s blouse, that is based on an example from “La Mode Illustrée” of 25 October 1908. All the sewing techniques used within this blouse are taken from an extant book, which makes this garment very close to an original blouse from that era. Nany only needs to add some closures and decorative buttons. Other than that, this blouse is finished and only waits to be worn. One of the events is called the Capitol Comes To Life and the ladies of We Wear History have…
