This shadow box shelf has a pocket in the back to hide the washer and dryer hookups. I needed a way to secure it to the wall while still allowing me to easily access the hookups if needed. These non mortise hinges were the perfect solution.

I got my materials from @loweshomeimprovement 
How I built the shelf…
The top and sides of the shelf I built with 1x8 primed mdf
The bottom of the shelf is 1x6 primed mdf
For the back of the shadow box I used 5mm sanded plywood. The plywood is affixed to the 1x6 bottom and shelf dividers which leaves a 2in hidden pocket for the hookups to hide in. For visuals you can check out the highlight.
