There are six major climate regions in the world. These define what the typical weather is in a given area. The regions are: polar, temper Polar Climate, Tipping Point, Migratory Birds, Sea Level Rise, Nocturnal Animals, Surface Water, Weather Patterns, Tropical Forest, Animal Species

Though the weather of an area can change daily, when seen in longer periods, it shows a general pattern of climate. For example, though it may rain on some days in the tropics and on others in the desert, rainfall is greater and more constant in the former than the latter. These patterns classify the world into six major climate regions.

The polar ice caps and the Greenland ice sheet are melting six times faster than they were in the 1990s. The high melt rate corresponds to the “worst case scenario” model for global warming set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and means that without sweeping curbs on greenhouse gas emissions, the planet will see a 17-centimetre rise in sea level in just 80 years, putting about 400 million people at risk of annual coastal flooding.
