Inanna, or Ishtar, is an ancient Mesopotamian goddess of love, beauty, sex, war, justice, and political power. She is known as the “Queen of Heaven” and was the patron goddess of the Eanna temple at the city of Uruk. She symbolized by the lion and is also associated with the planet Venus. Inanna is the most prominent deity in Sumerian myths, even appearing in the well-known Epic of Gilgamesh. She was later adopted by the Greeks and developed into the goddess Aphrodite.
