Before joining SPAIS, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Islam-UK Centre at Cardiff University (2008-10), exploring the history of Muslims in South Wales. Before this I was a Research Fellow in the Department of Geography at the University of Sheffield (2007-8), examining the food practices of middle-class families. I was also involved in a follow-up study exploring the food practices of Muslim women, funded by the British Academy.
I recently completed my PhD at the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of York. The thesis – entitled “Parallel Lives? Working-Class Muslim and Non-Muslim Women at University” – explored the intersections between class, faith and ethnicity for a group of women from the North of England.
My current research project (2010-13), ‘Paired Peers’, explores the experiences of working-class and middle-class students attending two universities.
