ok last better man post (sorry idk what took over me). i think what pains me about this movie flopping is that for all its weak spots it genuinely tries to do something new and exciting with a genre that is so overdone at this point and that will continue to be overdone (looking at whatever that Beatles casting is), and i wiiiish that it would have done well so that people saw that taking risks paid off. i like biopics for the same reason i like jukebox musicals, which is that i love listening to my favorite songs and seeing how people translate them into a story or visuals. and that is why i am soooo fed up with biopics that essentially are a wikipedia article with performance videos spliced in. you guys could have fun!!!!!! please have more fun. i am begging.

Ngl I saw the trailer for the better man movie and thought it looked horrible. Is the writing good?

listen. as a filmé the movie is a 3.5/5 i’d say, because it does get a bit trope-y at times, especially at the end. HOWEVER. It’s got some of the best musical scenes i have ever seen, the songs fucking bang, and it’s ultimately a pretty refreshing and fun way to go about doing a biopic. The narration by Robbie is very fun and gives it a tongue in cheek memoir feel that I like, and there is a scene near the end of it that is so bonkers my mouth was open for the entirety of it. I saw it in theatres twice and had the time of my life both times. (That said, I am partial to biopics because i like listening to music and seeing people dance to music so there’s a bias there. I essentially attend the movie screenings as a secondhand concert.) also the monkey’s hot.
