im just gna write this one here bc ihave an awful headache abdbsjd

Mike ushered Will into his room, sheltering the soaked, shivering boy with one arm as he gently pushed Will towards his closet. “H-here, why don’t you pick out something warm.” He murmured, shedding his own coat and shaking some of the water from his hair. Rain slammed against his window, thunder rolling overhead as Will sniffled and tugged one of Mike’s sweatshirts on.

“I can’t believe you,” Mike said, his tone light. “You could’ve called! You didn’t have to.. wait all night.”

“It’s fine. I’m used to it.” Will said. He wrapped his arms around himself, soaking up the warmth and smell of Mike’s clothes. It sucked away some of the pain from earlier that night.

“Will, you were out in the freezing rain for like, two hours. You could’ve called. I would’ve picked you up or something,” Mike said, changing into his own pajamas.

“It’s fine, Mike. Seriously. I’m here now.” Will said, sniffling again.

Mike crawled into bed, tugging his blankets up to his chest and patting the empty spot next to him. Will crawled in afterwards with a little grin, his green eyes sleepy and warm. He reached across the bed and linked his fingers with Mike’s, his smile widening.

Mike smiled back.

“You know.. I think you should paye back for saving you..”

Will’s eyes glittered.

“And how do you expect me to do that?”

Mike shifted closer, his eyelashes fluttering.

“A kiss goodnight?”

Will giggled at him, closing the space vetween them and pressing their lips together for a moment.

“You’re such a dork.”

“Please! Can’t any of you hear me?! Let! Me! Go!” Will screamed.
His voice was breaking, cracking at the edges as he threw himself against the odd room’s clear plastic door. He was making as much noise as he could, each impact of his fists against the door resulting in a clear, satisfying clack!
He had no idea why he was there or what would happen to him, but he knew he was going to find a way out. He threw himself against the door repeatedly, kicking and screaming for the inhabitants of the ship and laboratory to acknowledge him.
He wondered what was happening back home, now that an entire city was missing.
He wondered if anyone would notice.
The aliens that had taken them had been so sudden that there was no way to protect themselves. One moment, the sky was an icy blue streaked with thin wispy cirrus clouds, the next moment it was filled edge to edge with the underbelly of a colossal spacecraft.
Will remembered looking up into the belly of the ship, able to see blinking lights and hear blips and beeps as it hovered ominously over them.
His last thought was: huh, the movies got it right.
A brilliant yellow beam of light washed over the entire town a moment later, freezing everyone in their tracks and forcing them to witness their homes being pulled from the ground on a huge chunk of earth, the pipes and wires creaking and cracking as they were separated from their homes in the dirt.
Will had been one of the first to be sedated.
He pounded harder on the plastic door, reverting to howling and screaming rather than forming words. It gained him more volume.
He hardly remembered what his reaction had been upon seeing the aliens for the first time, but if he’d been forced to guess he probably would have said
‘they look like us.’
For it was true, the aliens did look shockingly human. The only differences between a human and the aliens they were now trapped with were their eyes- the alien’s eyes were much more vibrant than human eye colors, glimmering with greens and purples and, as Will had seen once already, brilliant oranges -and their size. While a human stood at an average of 5 and a half feet tall, the aliens were over ten times that.
Will could fit comfortably in the palm of the average alien.
He pushed himself even harder, screaming until his voice was breaking and he could taste ribbons of blood in his throat. His hands and knuckles were pinkish red from banging against the door so hard.
He only stopped when he could feel the rumbling footsteps of one of the aliens approaching, breathing heavily and shaking a bit from fear and exertion.
A shadow filled his room (kennel, he thought he’d heard one of them say), and then the familiar scratching of a key in a lock.
A moment later, the kennel door was lifted upwards from the bottom.
As fast as he could, Will tried to scramble out of the kennel, only to be caught up immediately in one of the alien’s giant hands.
He shrieked, kicking and fighting against the warm skin completely surrounding him. The alien cooed above him, as if he were a kitten play-biting instead of fighting with everything he had.
“Oh, aren’t you an energetic little pup? the others are still asleep, little buddy.” The alien purred at him, gently shifting Will until he was being held in a loose fist. He continued to squirm and kick and bite.
He just wanted to go home.
The alien carried him somewhere, but he was more focused on fighting until he was given enough space to run and hide.
Before long, the warmth around him disappeared, and he stumbled a bit as he was set on a cold, hard surface. It was one of those lab tables he’d seen in movies, with the reflective metal surfaces.
He could see himself, shivering and in nothing but the weird scrub-like shorts they’d given all of the humans after they’d woken up.
His nose was turning pink as he tried to sneak away, the alien that had taken him tending to something else across the table. He scurried to the edge of the table, trying to find a way to climb down, when the alien’s hand appeared and coached him gently back towards the center of the table.
“Hang on, buddy. We can’t have you getting hurt.” It said.
He huffed, trying to climb over its hand as it continued to do whatever it had been doing. He didn’t get very far before its fingers wrapped around him, and he was lifted off the table again.
He howled, biting one of the alien’s fingers as hard as he could.
“Ow! Hey! you really are a little crazy, aren’t you? Can you sit still for one second for me, bud?” It said.
Will did not sit still for even a moment.
He kicked and pushed and bit and scratched, putting all of his effort into just fighting.
“You’ve got a lot of energy for such a small pup!” The alien chuckled, finally finishing whatever it had been doing across the table.
“We just want to make sure you don’t hurt yourself…” It said, producing a gigantic syringe from seemingly nowhere.
Will’s stomach dropped to the floor.
He fought even harder, wailing and begging the alien not to use that thing on him.
“Oh, it’s gonna be okay, honey. Don’t worry…”
The alien used its thumb to push Will’s head up and hold it in place, tightening its grip on his body and pinning his arms down to his sides.
Will squirmed as best as he could as the syringe came toward him and the tip of the needle disappeared from his line of sight.
The syringe was filled with a greenish blue liquid, and Will watched it slosh a bit as it was brought to his stomach.
The needle pierced his skin with the tiniest pop, making him yelp and try to buck away.
“Oh, oh, it’s okay. Stay still, you’re gonna knock the needle out if you wiggle too much!” the alien said.
I hope I do! Will thought. He squirmed as the alien pushed down on the syringe’s plunger. He could feel the liquid inside fill his stomach. Almost immediately, it began to take effect, and a thick wooziness filled his head like cotton. He sagged against the alien’s hand, his heart beginning to slow.
“See? that’s it… that’s a good boy.” The alien hummed. It released his head, letting him loll forward a bit.
“Now you can sleep like the other pups, hm?” the alien said, but Will’s hearing was fuzzy. He hardly processed the wall of kennels, each of them containing a single human curled up and sleeping in front of the door.
Will fought against the sedative, pushing against the alien’s fingers even as it dropped him gently inside the kennel, shutting the door and locking it.
Will howled again, his voice weak and wavering from the sedative.
It wasn’t long before he was asleep.

He awoke to a bright light in his eyes. Bringing one hand up to shield his vision, he rolled his head a bit to see where he was. His eyes met brilliant violet ones.
“Hey, he’s awake.” One of the aliens said.
Its voice was distinctively feminine.
“Can we up the dosage?”
“Not unless you want to kill him.”
Will jolted at that, kicking a bit.
“Oh, oh… it’s okay..” The female alien said, reaching forward and running one of her fingers over Will’s hair.
Will bucked, looking down at his body to see that he was covered with different tubes, electrodes covering his head and chest. The other alien’s thumb was pressed into his stomach, holding him against the table.
“He’s going to fight, you heard about earlier-“
“Yeah, I know, but I’m not going to risk killing him until we’re certain what this gene is. Same with the female.”
Will whined. His mouth felt fuzzy, his tongue sticking to the roof of his mouth.
“What do we do until then? Just let him stay awake and hope he doesn’t rip any electrodes out?”
“Well it’s either that or we dose him a second time, kill him, and then lose our chance of figuring out what this anomaly is.” The female alien snapped.
Will whimpered again. They didn’t care about him, just about whatever was inside him that let him have his powers. He hoped they hadn’t done the same to Jane yet.
“Please…” he whined. “I want.. to… go home…” He forced out.
The female alien looked back at him, pouting a bit.
“It’s okay buddy… I know it’s spooky. You’ll be back in your kennel in a bit.” She said.
Will got the feeling that she hadn’t understood him at all.
“Do you have any readings?” She asked the other one, exasperated.
“Not any different than we’ve been getting- higher frequencies and definite effects on electricity and gravity. If he were any bigger he might be able to turn out the lights in here.”
Will whined, louder this time. He was too tired to form real words.
“You might get a special kennel today, little pup. Isn’t that exciting?” The female alien said, still absentmindedly petting Will’s hair.
“Whatever this gene is for seems to be why he won’t stay under… he’s going to have to be relocated. We’ll have to see if the female stays under or if she’ll have to join him.” The other alien said.
Will kicked again, getting stronger as he woke up more and more.
“Do you think we have enough information? He’s only going to get crazier the longer we keep him here without sedative. It might be better if we can just relocate him to the top floor right now.” The female alien said.
She stopped petting Will’s hair, and he whimpered a bit. It was the closest thing he’d gotten to his mom’s touch the entire time. The alien holding him down finally moved its thumb to do something with the equipment beside him.
Jolting, Will sat up, trying to stand despite the proximity of the aliens around him. He tried to run, but before he could detach even one of the electrodes decorating his body, the female alien grabbed him, squeezing him tight enough to keep him from moving, but not tight enough to hurt.
“Fuck.” She muttered as he squirmed, biting and scratching whatever he could reach.
“Are you sure we shouldn’t try another dose?”
The female alien glared at the other one, loosening her fingers to gently tug away all of the electrodes and tubing. She gently scooped Will into both hands, keeping one cupped overtop of him to keep him from escaping.
“I’m putting him upstairs.” She said.
He felt them begin to travel down the hallway, trying to pry in between her fingers or between her palms, kicking and shoving his hands wherever he could reach. He could hear and feel her footsteps as she walked along, cowering away from the sounds of other aliens in the hall.
They travelled for some time, and Will could hear the odd sounds of what he assumed was an elevator, the whooshing of doors and whirr of machinery at least somewhat familiar.
Before long, light filled the space in the alien’s hands.
The top floor, as Will assumed, was much more open than the lab he had been kept in before. There weren’t walls lined with kennels full of other alien creatures along with humans. Instead, there was one wall with only a few kennels. These were much larger than the kennel Will had been in before, and they actually had small white fluorescents within them.
The alien moved to one of the larger kennels, using the key around her neck to unlock it (the door had two locks this time, Will noted miserably) before opening the door and gently setting Will inside.
He tried to run out, but she had closed and locked the door again by the time he reached it, slamming his hands against the plastic again.
She chuckled at him, tapping on the opposite side of the plastic with her fingernail.
“You really do have a lot of energy for a runt, don’t you, little pup?” She said fondly.
Will froze, blinking.
“..runt?” He asked.
The female alien tapped at him a few more times before leaving Will alone on the top floor by himself.
Will sat down hard in front of the door.
Weren’t runts the first to die?
