[trying to insult a person's dog-like devotion to someone but not wanting to make them sound too cool about it] keep your fucking dog in a purse
my little brother tried to show me a "cool trick" where he entered my name and hometown into chatgpt and tried to get it to pull up my personal info like it did on all of his friends, then was absolutely shocked when it couldn't find anything on me
so. keep practicing basic internet safety, guys. it still works. don't put your personal info on social media, keep all your accounts on private, turn off ai scraping on every site that you can, enable all privacy features on social media apps. our info still can be protected, we have to keep fighting for control
I gathered you here to hide from some vast unnameable fear
But the loneliness never left me
I always took it with me
But I can put it down in the pleasure of your company
And if tomorrow it's all over
At least we had it for a moment
Oh, darling, things seem so unstable
But for a moment, we were able to be still

[guy with the Cant Focus Disorder] why the fuck can't I focus
i don't care if people think i'm weird for saying this but i do not care if a trans person is "cringey", if a disabled person is "cringey", if someone's interests are too "loud" i just genuinely do not care, it is none of my business and honestly good on them for being who they are. people are WAY too comfortable making fun of and bullying marginalized people who aren't "cool" to yall. I don't have to be cool to be respected. A lot of yall will see someone who is just existing as themselves and become so butthurt and i think it's because yall aren't as comfortable in yourselves as those people being proud about themselves are. You guys want to say that people aren't "actually disabled" or aren't "actually trans" or aren't "actually __" because they just live and thrive in themselves better than yall do. come on now. The internet has gotten way too fucking comfortable bullying people and has excused way too much hatred for people who aren't just existing all because yall don't think they meet your standards of what's "cool". and no xyz doesn't "actually" make someone cringey, if they aren't hurting anyone i quite frankly do not care, and if they are hurting someone that should be the main critique not what their interests are, not if they're disabled, not if they're queer, it should be the harmful actions.
how i'm handling my students using AI to write papers:
-don't accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don't know the meaning of
-ask to see their original file where they "wrote" the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like "certainly! here's an essay about...."
-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don't, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.
in regards to disability (and tbh most other things in life) we cannot use the language of the oppressor to escape dehumanisation. there are lots of ableist narratives that are used to demean disabled people, deny them help, and blame them for their disabilities and difficult situations. phrases like: "they don't want to get better." "have you tried everything?" and such are abundant. implying that mobility aids is giving up, that refusing treatment is a moral sin, that some people "brought it upon themselves". all this is used to justify ableism, but ableism is never justified. so this means our hardline shouldn't be "hey I tried everything and I'm still disabled," even if the false accusation can sting. this still, inadvertently, legitimises the notion that to be worth basic dignity as a disabled person you must have jumped through all the hoops that ableds set before you. actually nobody should have to try everything, or even anything, to get basic respect and treatment. nobody has to justify why their disabilities are not their fault or outside of their control because these things shouldn't matter and should have absolutely no impact on how well a disabled person is treated. all disabled people, no matter what they do or why they're disabled, deserve accommodation and basic human respect on the same level as their abled peers. it's non negotiable, so stop negotiating with ableists.
