Alysha Whitfield | Bee Jeweled Coop on Instagram: "Navigating the space needs for backyard chickens, especially for those in suburbs or cities! 🏡🐓 My 4x8ft coop serves as a comfy home for my flock and houses up to 12 chickens (but could hold more!) It’s not just about square footage. Consider roosting space (10-12” per chicken) and nesting boxes (1 for every 3-4 chickens). But here’s the thing: RUN SPACE is crucial and often overlooked. Cramped pre-made coops can lead to unhappy and unhealthy chickens. Give your chickens at least 10 sq ft each in their run. Opt for a secure, covered run to keep them safe from predators and the elements. Ensuring these minimum space requirement is key to happy chickens (and neighbors)! 🌿🏠 #chickencoop #diychickencoop #chickenkeeping #newchickenow Chickens In The City Backyards, Chicken Coop On Side Of House, Epic Chicken Coop, Space Saving Chicken Coop, Hidden Chicken Coop, Moving Chicken Coop, City Chicken Coop, Inside Chicken Coop Designs, Chicken Coop And Run Ideas

Chickens & Gardening • Lyndsey Gaskins on Instagram: "Welcome to my happy place! (Shared with 47 feathered friends of course) •Our main coop is 14x10 with two 16x10 foot runs on each side. •One side has a dirt floor for feeding scraps and the coop and opposite run are sand. We opted for sand on the ground because it’s quick and easy to clean; it’s affordable, and a natural dust bath for the ladies. •For our last coop we buried hardware cloth into the ground for a predator proof barrier, but this time we decided to just pour a concrete footing dug down about a foot for extra protection, and it will also keep the wood from rotting being right on the dirt in the elements. I’ve seen people use bricks or pavers which works too. •I highly recommend hardware cloth over chicken wire.
