A well-preserved Roman Corinthian capital in situ at the frigidarium of the Forum Baths, Ostia (I, XII, 6). The date of the capital is ca. 160 CE. Pensabene refers to this as an example of Corinzio Asiatico ("Asiatic Corinthian," Scavi di Ostia VII, cat. no. 333). The lobes of the individual acanthus leaves are sharply-cut, almost prismatic in layout. Height: 87 cm Material: imported Pentelic marble (column shaft is of green-veined cipollino).
