Mastering the art of lighting is one of the strongest skills a videographer can have in their toolbox and it’s not as hard as you may think.

Here’s my breakdown for how I approach every interview I film:

We’re aiming for something called Rembrandt lighting — just a lighting technique that provides nice intentional shadows on the face of your talent. Gives the talent a more dramatized look and feel. 

This is done by using 1-2 lights and a reflector to light the face evenly but also introduce shadows on one side of the face. If done correctly, you get something called the “Rembrandt Patch” — an upside down triangle of light on the darker side of the face.
