Platform rocker

George Hunzinger was a furniture maker during the later half of the 19th century. He emigrated to the United States in 1855 and began manufacturing furniture in New York City. Like his contemporary furniture makers of the Victorian Age, Hunzinger's pieces are very decorative. What is unique about his furniture is the innovative and distinctive designs he patented. This site contains information and photo's of Hunzinger's work.

Nice one with paper patent sticker. Great shot of the patented duplex spring system - BTW, best rocking action on a chair. Bottom line. This is a shot of a paper stamp. I am not sure when Hunzinger or his sons began using these. Both Hunzingers we own had the paper stamps.

This was a beautiful antique walnut rocking chair, done in the Eastlake style, but with some Victorian details. I especially like the fine reeded rails. The fabric on the chair was worn, and the seat was starting to come apart, but the client wanted to keep the chair looking as close as possible to the same as what she had.
