the walking dead, season 6: episode: 6 - always accountable;
help.
last time i asked God for a favor and stopped to admire a view, my son got shot. i try not to mix it up with the almighty anymore.
it’s been a while since we had one of these talks.
don’t say it. i know. i’m the one who does most of the talking.
i’ll try to keep it short, but you’re up late anyway and it’s past time i get you up to speed.
today was day 35, and things are really taking shape.
it wasn’t that long ago we were fighting just to stay alive. but it’s not like that anymore. we’re building. we’re growing. we’re still ready to deal with this world on its own terms. but we’re not letting it define us anymore. we’re getting back a piece of who we used to be, how things were before all this.
it’s all happening.
we’re not just fighting to survive anymore;
we’re making a new beginning.
“This season, every time Andy and I are in a scene together one of us starts tearing up like a baby. And it’s usually me first. And then he gets upset, ‘Look what you made me do.’ But that hug, everybody was crying. The whole group was choked up. It felt like we were back together, which is where the show’s at now, which I’m really excited about.”

When I was a kid I asked my grandpa once if he ever killed any Germans in the war. He wouldn’t answer. He said that was grown-up stuff, so I asked if the Germans ever tried to kill him. But he got real quiet. He said he was dead the minute he stepped into enemy territory. Every day he woke up and told himself, “Rest in peace. Now get up and go to war.” And then after a few years of pretending he was dead he made it out alive. That’s the trick of it, I think. We do what we need to do and then we get to live. (…) I know we’ll be okay. Because this is how we survive. We tell ourselves that we are the walking dead.
