Genesis, still bouncing the baby: Zack, you have to return this child. Not only does the concept of you caring for an infant raise several concerns, but you’re too young.
Zack: I can’t! It’s part of the experiment! If I return it early, Hojo says I’ll fail fatherhood and he’ll put a note in my file.
Angeal: Well, SOLDIER is no place for a baby. Can you imagine if I had one? Right now? How chaotic and unrealistic that would be?
*Sephiroth walks up to Angeal, taps him on the shoulder and extends his arms*
*Angeal picks him up like a baby and cradles him in his arms*

Less Common Genders in ABO (and Final Fantasy VII Examples)
If you’re here for this blog for the omegaverse and not the FFVII side, fear not, they’ll be separated with a series of three flower emojis (*insert here*). This covers my definition of three less common ABO genders, the Enigma, Sigma, and Delta. These I find are more “loose” and versatile, with few sources actually labeling them as the same. So these are my takes and how I define these three in my own omegaverse. The FFVII part is also rather brief.

Sephiroth
Sephiroth is a lovely, silkie with soft and smooth fur. He is a little standoffish at times, but once you win him over with chunks of pumpkin, he’s chittering happily like a baby. His color morph is a lilac otter.
Angeal
Angeal is a practical, but still stubbly teddy. He’s not big on new toys and gets frustrated if you accidentally put the hutch back in the wrong order. He likes his water bottle always in the left corner, his food bowl right under the hay feeder, and he always uses the litter box. He is a blue roan.
Genesis
A very opinionated Peruvian. He will not touch is greens if they are wilted and how dare you feed him Timothy hay! He only eats botanical or orchard grass. How could you forsake him like this?! He doesn’t care if the store only had Timothy, go to another then! He is a red.
Zack
Zack is a very spirited little texel. He loves toys more than his enclosure-mates and he’s always the first to the feeder. He’ll try all the new toys and definitely gets in weird locations that no one can be full sure how he got there (such as on top of the hidey hole WHILE Cloud is in it). He’s a simple black.
Cloud
Cloud is a skittish Abyssinian. He doesn’t ever really get super cuddly, but he isn’t too problematic, but he does prefer to stay hidden in the various hides (bonus points if Zack can’t get in and invade his personal space). He prefers to stay in his own company, but this means he falls to the bottom of the pecking order. He’s a cream and white.
Tifa
Tifa is an American guinea pig who can no longer be kept in the same enclosure as the Shinra cavies, as she bit Sephiroth for invading Cloud’s personal space. She enjoys dropping flowers from the botanical hay into the water dish, dyeing the fresh water all sorts of colors and cold-brewing tea. She’s a chocolate.
Aerith
Aerith is a sweet rex who enjoys sunbathing, fresh flowers, and cuddles. She figured out that she can trade flowers with Zack through the barrier separating the two enclosures between the Shinra and Avalanche cavies. She’s the sweetheart who will race to the enclosure door to greet you and she’s a big fan of botanical hay. She’s an agouti.

After talking to @chocobochaserstories about how mako might affect female SOLDIERs (e.g. making them more masculine presenting, among other things, ask Lu for full details, it's very interesting!), I think it works the other way too: pretty boys.
The lifestream is made up of souls, of any and all genders including the really neat animal genders and orientations (like snails that shoot darts to get each other pregnant), so I think it sands down the original characteristics/hormones of the people who inject it into their body and makes them more androgynous.

SOLDIER Mako Headcanons
Bouncing off of @salternateunreality2 ideas, and I suppose the more technical side. I wouldn’t say female SOLDIERs are necessarily more masculine, perse, but they do fall more androgynous compared to female characters seen within the game.
DISCLAIMER: This is not intended to be perverted or to bodyshame any of the female characters. This is observational.
Starting in the models, the female models are actually very traditionally feminine in the sense that many of them have sharply curved waists, thin thighs, rounder hips and pronounced chests. Granted, these characteristics don’t fully hold true with Aerith, but I’d argue Ifalna wasn’t incredibly curvaceous… not that we have much to go off of. Granted, if we use Salty’s idea that the Lifestream impacts those who carry it within them, it could be plausible that the Cetra also carry traits of others when they walk on Gaia. Again, given that we have one dead full-blood Cetra and Aerith (wherever you’d like to class her- dead or alive), there’s not too much to go off of on that front.
Contrasting the Female SOLDIERs against the female models, the female SOLDIERs tend to lack the traditionally feminine traits. Jessie, Tifa, and Yuffie all have more soft, rounded faces and daintier features, while Alissa and Lucia have more “harsh” features. Their nose is nearly identical to Sephiroth, and both have longer faces with sharper jawlines. Their chests and waists are less pronounced, as are their hips. Now, this could be due to their armor. Obviously, our SOLDIER ladies aren’t just going to wear a standard bra, as there’s not enough support, and sports bras tend to compress their curves, same with their jackets as it does seem like Alissa’s chest is larger when her jacket is unzipped, but that’s not helping my point here.
One other note, the SOLDIER/Deepground female operatives have thicker thighs compared to the female models, and I think this is due to musculature. In my headcanons, mako makes bone and muscle denser, which aids in combat. Denser bones means they break less easily. Muscle fibers being denser, however, does mean that we’re not necessarily going to see the buff bodybuilder model that we see on Angeal. The female SODIERs are still pretty slender. Their muscles are very compact, leaving their models more toned and buff.
Oh, and I’m complaining while we’re on the topic. The other females get off the hook here as they choose their own outfits, but Deepground and SOLDIER are military issued. So Shinra, WTF. Tiny Shorts that are borderline revealing the hips in the Deepground case- those slits were NOT needed). What purpose do the Deepground leg cuffs serve? They’re not garters keeping those boots up, which personal opinion are useless as well, given that at least the SOLDIER boots do at least have metal guards on them. Give the ladies pants, Shinra.

Omegas
Compared to alphas, omegas generally have softer, more delicate scents. While there are exceptions, scents often include flowers, sweet scents like vanilla or caramel, fruity scents such as sweet berries, are among the common scent patterns. Scents follow a more “feminine” pattern while alphas have more “masculine” scents, although gender norms in terms of male or female are more loose in omegaverse as they’re overridden by alpha and omega. Omegas enjoy scenting their partners the most, and it is not specific to sexual settings. Scenting for omegas is an intimate act, and is ingrained from birth. Omegas generally scent their pups, beginning at birth and extending to the offspring’s mating. (So an omega will scent their pup until they have a mate of their own). Generally, omegas scent over the primary scent gland, which is the most major scent gland and the one located in the neck. The primary scent gland is the gland that is the most sacred to an alpha or an omega and is where a mating bite is placed. Betas do not have a primary scent gland. In addition, an omega’s scent intensifies during their heat cycle and may take on a more “pleasant” aphrodisiac note. During pregnancy, the scent is often sweeter.
Side note: Unpresented pups often have a scent like steamed milk, or a milky, soft scent.

Betas
Betas do not have scent glands, so they do not have individual scents. Occasionally, if a beta is in a relationship with a omega or alpha, it can be emotionally and instinctually satisfying for the partner to let them scent them.
Alpha
Alphas often have hardier scents, such as wood or sawdust (especially more fragrant ones such as pine or cedar), nature scents such as fresh rain, earthy scents such as wet soil or limestone, or crisp scents like ozone. Alphas tend to have “masculine” scents, granted masculine and feminine aren’t particularly solid concepts within the omegaverse as male/female is overridden by the overarching concept of alpha/omega. Alphas can also carry undertones to their scents, for example, an alpha may smell of fresh rain and iron, but carry a sweet scent as well of apples (FFVII Angeal Hewley’s scent in my headcanons). Alphas are territorial and scent their partner as a marking, similar to omegas. Alphas are more likely to scent their partner after mating, a rut, or their partner was around another alpha.

First Class Wing Headcanons
My brainrot (mostly) from @foreststarflaime’s works on AO3, specifically “Under My Skin” and the scene with Angeal helping preen a stressed Genesis. Made me go off on a chaotic wing ramble, as someone who used to have six birds. I kept Australian Budgerigars, or Budgies, so my experience is with hookbills. Hookbills, or parrots, are classified by their distinct beak shape and zygodactyl feet (two toes forward, two toes back), which helps them with grasping things like perches, sticking landings, and picking things (often pencils off of my desk) up. Oh, and this is self indulgent so let me ramble about theoretical birdy boy headcanons.
