The ready-mixed concrete franchise business in Thailand is business format franchise which Hoffman and Prebles (1993) explained the business format franchise that franchisees replicate in their local community an entire business concept, including product or service, trade name and methods of operation and Rubin (1978) stated that business format franchise controls by the franchisor may extend over products sold, price, hours of operation, condition of the plant, inventory, insurance, personnel and accounting and auditing. In driving franchise network competitiveness, there are two keys factors namely Franchisee Perceived Benefits and Franchisor Assistances were identified. The Franchisee Perceived Benefits consist of sales force enhancement, sales referral and tolling, asset networking, access to government projects, access to national and international contractors while Franchisor Assistances consist of commercial assistances, technical assistances, supplier relations and consultation assistances. Findings of key factors supporting the franchise network competitiveness and with the use of Structuring Equation Modeling (SEM) can explain the influence of the factors to the non-retail franchising business model. The result from the study can be applied to other non-retail businesses and also can be developed for further study in other non-retail franchise businesses.

It has been suggested that these entrepreneurs can function as important catalysts to combination economic, social and environmental structural transformations toward sustainability. However, the actual mechanisms underlying such a role are empirically under-researched and theoretically underdeveloped. In this study we investigate the possible catalytic role and commonly agreed framework for the effective of sustainability entrepreneurship strategy implementation and influential factors toward among Entrepreneurs, Investors and Regulators perspective in the successful entrepreneurship strategy on transition to a low carbon economy. The objective of the study is to enhance our knowledge in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship strategy transition to a low carbon econ...

It remains a challenge for the banks to figure out how to attract more customers to adopt the use of banking services via an internet channel. This study aims at examining the factors that impact the acceptance of the use of internet banking in Thailand. A total of 697 subjects participated in this study. Data were collected via both interview and survey. The findings suggest factors that banks should consider when implementing internet services, thus allowing them to design an internet service that meets the needs of their customers.

Selecting the most appropriate Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is used as the case example. Seven EGAT experts participated in refining the criteria and selecting the alternatives using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The criteria are grouped using the affinity (K-J) diagram. 'Benefit' rather than 'low cost' criterion is given the highest importance. 'Intangible benefit' is given more importance than 'tangible benefit' sub-criterion. The selected technology turns out to be rather insensitive to changes in the importance of each main criterion.

Effective supply chain management has become a key strategy for the industry to stay competitive. Performance measurement has thus become a crucial issue in automotive supply chains. The purpose of the research is to gain insight into the relevant performance attributes that affect the automotive supply chains. The critical factor indexes (CFIs) are calculated in order to determine which of the performance attributes are considered to be the strength and which ones need to be specially focused, so that precautions could be made in developing the performance measurement system. Based on the CFIs, companies in Thai automotive supply chains can support their decision making under scarce resources with valid data. A set of questionnaires with different performance attributes is used comprising of two separate parts, one intended for the first tier supplier companies and the other for the automakers. Each performance attribute in the questionnaires is assessed on how important the company sees them from their perspective, how well the tasks measured by each performance attribute have been carried out in their companies, how they see themselves compared to their competitors, and how they see each performance attribute developing compared to the situation 1 to 2 years before. The results provide a guideline to the companies in Thai automotive supply chains to measure the right performance attributes for making the right decision in a competitive environment.

Of interest are two major paradigms of project evaluation in capital budgeting: Weingartner's paradigm and multiperiod capital budgeting paradigm. These research paradigms differ in the assumption on the projects in the planning horizon. Weingartner's paradigm assumes complete information. That is, cash flows estimates of all projects throughout the planning horizon are available to the firm at the current decision time. Multiperiod capital budgeting paradigm assumes incomplete information. That is, at the current decision time the firm has no cash flow estimates of future projects. Two main sources of uncertainty in multiperiod capital budgeting are examined: uncertainty about project cash flows (cash flow uncertainty) and uncertainty due to incomplete information (basic uncertainty). Research questions are concerned with the (1) advisability of refining the decision criteria in the face of uncertainties, (2) relative effects of cash flow and basic uncertainties, and (3) effects of quality of cash flow information. Four criteria are investigated: net present worth (NPW); utility of NPW of cash flows (UNC); dynamic utility of NPW (DUN), which explicitly incorporates dependence of preferences on equity position; and DUN without discounting, which is equivalent to a form of Thompson and Thuesen's dynamic investment criteria. Complete enumeration is the solution method employed. A new stochastic model is built for the experiments and described in detail, with program listings in SIMSCRIPT. No significant difference is found in the performance of the firm using different criteria, provided the same discount rate is used. Cash flow uncertainty is found to have a much larger effect than basic uncertainty. Quality of cash flow information is found to be significant in the performance of the firm. An unexplained result is found that using no discounting with low quality of information results in statistically better performance relative to using an 8% discount rate. The conclusions are (1) it seems inadvisable to focus research effort on increasing the sophistication of project evaluation; and (2) the firm may ignore future projects in the current decisions and concentrate on getting high quality cash flow information for current projects alone.

Thailand also considers initiating the first nuclear power plant preparations. Several activities, including policy strategy and action plan development are being carefully processed to handle this challenging project for which several shortcomings, such as public acceptance, nuclear safety, project transparency, policy instability etc., have to be overcome. Public acceptance is the most difficult for project implementation. One of the most interesting solutions is to educate people about the impact as well as the management approaches of the project for mitigating any negative consequences. In this study, the impacts of a nuclear power project are investigated and identified, and impact management approaches are also suggested.

The results indicated that most Thai firms used capital budgeting techniques for the analysis of investment projects (74.1%) and more than half (51.7%) of total corporate capital investment expenditures were screened by capital budgeting techniques. Discounted-cash-flow techniques were used by the majority of the firms with Internal Rate of Return (IRR) the most used evaluate techniques. Moreover, risk is quantified on individual project basis in assessing risk in investment decisions. Shortening the desired payback period was used most among the risk analysis techniques and the most likely scenario received most attention in the financial justification in relation to risk.

It is intriguing to note the similarity of this framework with the strategy map concept in the Balanced Scorecard approach. As is well-known, the Balanced Scorecard contains four basic elements: financial, customer value proposition, internal process, and organizational learning and growth. Each element is owned and performed by the different functional departments within the organization. Intangible assets are defined as non-financial assets without physical substance. Examples of these are customer loyalty, brand names, computer software, recipes, formulas, designs, patents, product developments, and corporate cultures. While conventional accounting treats tangible assets as assets, the investment in intangible assets is normally regarded as operating costs an...

In addition, the outcome of the decision will affect not only the decision-makers but also their family, society and ultimately all sectors of the country. As such, selecting the universities is a critical decision that is just as important as making business decisions. From statistical data, the dropout rate after first year of university and a rate of lateral transfer from one faculty to another in public university are high. Therefore, students need to have a framework to assist them in achieving their lifetime goals. The research methodology begins with investigating and determining the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) influencing university selection decisions from relevant sources. Then, the process of synthesis using Nominal Group Technique (NGT) is implemented with small expert group and grouping them to each main fac...

The research uses a questionnaire built on a Sense and Respond (S&R) method called Critical Factors Index (CFI). It examines the trend using such CFI terms as importance, experiences, expectations, gaps, deviations and direction of development. The results show several critical areas for improvement needed including customer perspective and the traditional use of payback technique for project evaluation in the firm. The results also show that the needed improvement is more critical in small firms than in medium and large firms. The results further show that the improvement needed is more critical for merchandizing firms than for manufacturing and service firms.
