As they learn more sounds were able to blend more words. Teaching the sound alone is a lesson on its own after that lesson I slowly begin showing the students what they can do with those sounds. This gets them excited to continue learning all their sounds because now they know that eventually they’ll be able to read! What my ELA block looks like:  1. Heggerty phonemic awareness 2. Letters/sounds review (what they already know) 3. Introducing (teaching) new sound (penmanship of the letter we’re learning)  4. Blending words with the sounds we’ve been taught.  5.
