They are such intricate interesting structures, a composite organism made up of a fungus, usually an ascomycete, that grows symbiotically with an alga or a cyanobacterium and characteristically forms a crustlike or branching growth on rocks or tree trunks. At the backyard, growing on a bark. It has a crusty and pale green appearance. This lichen spreads in a an almost-random pattern however, you can notice the root-like growth. The growth that occupies the all available space surrounding the center. Lichen can provide shelter for other organisms and for some serve as a food.
