The perimeter foundation wall is made of concrete block on top a 20" wide footer. The footer has a layer of ice and water shield on top overhanging the edges by a few inches. This is done to protect the footer from exposed water damage. The concrete block is protected on the outside with a layer of damp proofing followed by a layer of tar that goes to the finish grade line. This detailing ensures that the crawlspace will be dry and keep the concrete in great condition over its lifespan.
