Image Tagging Image:Embryonic spinal cord.jpg
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Embryonic spinal cord.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:03, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Cachalote
editHola Kurzon.

Hi Kurzon,
I noticed you're constantly updating an improving the above graphics.
Since it's very hard to translate the image as is, do you have a working copy with real text (in contrast to text which was converted to paths) at hand? Sadly you reverted my version of "20:02, 18 July 2013" (which I used as base for the arabic version) without giving any reason and I'm not willing to do the work again to update the (now outdated) Arabic version or create other translations.
Why don't you upload the graphics with real text anyway? --Patrick87 (talk) 11:39, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- I constantly fix this diagram as I get a more accurate vision of what is in its head. The literature on sperm whale anatomy is crude and inconsistent.
- The image now uses proper text instead of paths. Earlier versions had a bug where black boxes appeared in the browser image, because current browsers don't support that format (SVG 1.2 flowed text). I fixed it by converting the text to paths. When I realized what was the problem, I converted the text to SVG 1.1. Sorry, this was indeed sloppy of me.
- I respect the work you've done and will fix it myself, if you wish. I don't speak Arabic, but it's just a matter of cutting and pasting the text to the corresponding parts, right?Kurzon (talk) 19:48, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Great you figured out how to keep the texts intact! This ways the graphic can be edited much more easily. It would be great If you'd update the Arabic version, too (although I didn't want to urge you, do it if you have time and feel like it).
- Since I don't speak Arabic either we're probably both equally unqualified for the job, but basically it is only copying/pasting as you say. It's only a little tricky because of the RTL text and the latest stable version of Inkscape had some issues with character encoding if I remember right, so I used a nightly build. --Patrick87 (talk) 20:14, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. you can answer me here, I always watch user pages when leaving a message there, so it won't go unnoticed. This way the discussion keeps intact so other people understand what's going on when they stumble across it.

File:Ork Boyz.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Kurzon. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Kurzon~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Four-toothed whales
editI belatedly noticed that you re-drew this file, after I had re-drawn a companion image to represent a newly-recognized species at File:Black Baird's beaked whale size.svg. If you'd look at it and see if you think it has any problens, (other than having more points than needed) I'd be grateful; feel free to change it if you see fit. HLHJ (talk) 04:00, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- @HLHJ: The only change I made was to replace the silhouette of the human diver. I created a nicer-looking silhouette by tracing a photo of a real diver. My version is not only nicer-looking, it's also easier to adjust its size to the proper scale. You can easily figure out the diver's height by measuring the length from his head to his heel, whereas with the old image it's a little tricky. Kurzon (talk) 04:05, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- It looks to me as if you redrew the whale as well; the old one has two polygons rather than a single line, which made it a bit awkward to modify. I think you are right about ease of measuring; the traced diver is tilting his chin up and arching his upper back in order to look foreward, but I expect head-to-heel should be about the same as his height anyway. I just scaled the new whale to the old one, without altering the figure, as a source image showed the two whales side-by-side to scale. It seems to be about right. Autopatrol given
editHello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. ~riley (talk) 05:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

File:Tau Cadre Fireblade Dario Colasanti.jpg was recently deleted
editFile:Tau Cadre Fireblade Dario Colasanti.jpg was recently deleted by Túrelio for reasons below. If you disagree with the deletion, you need to file an undeletion request.
- Reason for deletion: CSD G4 (recreation of content previously deleted per community consensus): Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Warhammer 40,000
It's best to discuss with the administrator who deleted your file before filing an undeletion request. Deletion Notification Bot (talk) 19:58, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Túrelio: I recently re-uploaded this file by accident to the Commons. I meant to upload it to Wikipedia but I got confused by the upload wizard. So if you see fit to delete it from the Commons, go ahead.
- A thing I want with this image is to use it on Wikipedia at full resolution. Games Workshop has officially stated that it doesn't regard fan photographs of its minis to be their intellectual property. I think with that, we could compromise and allow the image to be stored on Wikipedia at full resolution. I don't want it to be scaled down, which is what is normally done with Fair Use files.

Notification about possible deletion
editSome contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Thanks for uploading File:BloodRavensTerminator.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:BloodRavensTerminator.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
