Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

 

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Wir, die Liebigschule, möchten Sie darauf aufmerksam machen, dass in dieser Bilddatei ein falscher Name angegeben wurde. Sie bezeichneten das Gebäude als "Haus B", jedoch ist es in Wirklichkeit "Haus C". Wir haben den Bereich des Bildes, auf dem man den Buchstaben "C" an der Mauer des Gebäudes sehen kann einmal für Sie vergrößert und markiert. Diese Datei (PNG) finden hier auf unserem liebigschule-giessen.de-Server.

Hallo Stefan, laut Denkmaltopographie S.64f (und nach dem, was ich sonst so gehört habe) ist der gesamte Stadtkern von Hann. Münden denkmalgeschützt (Stadtdenkmal). Richtig ist, dass im Textteil lange nicht alle Gebäude davon erwähnt werden, vor allem solche nicht, die nicht konstituierender Bestandteil des Gesamtdenkmals sind. Damit ist allerdings etwas schwer umzugehen für Wikipedia, fürchte ich. --Dehio (talk) 19:35, 1 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hallo, ua. bei File:Kirchturm Johanniskirche am Markt Hagen.jpg, File:Grabsteine an der Johanniskirche am Markt Hagen 2.jpg und File:Grabsteine an der Johanniskirche am Markt Hagen.jpg wird deine Vorlage komisch dargestellt. Die Bilder sind auch in Category:Files with no machine-readable source und Category:Files with no machine-readable author drin, das heißt das diese wichtigen Infos manchmal nicht oder nicht richtig angezeigt werden können. Oh, ich sehe grade, das du ein großer Fabarius-Fan bist. Zumindest behaupten viele deiner Bilder, Fabarius-Denkmäler zu sein. Kriegt man das irgendwie automatisch gefixt, oder soll ich da mal bei Lust und Laune manuell drübergehen und den Fabarius entfernen und durch passendes ersetzen? Hallo Stefan, hab grade was bei einem deiner Fotos geändert [1] und die Kategoriebeschreibung ergänzt. Sind jetzt auch die WDPA-Kartenlinks dabei. Das Gebiet ist ja überschaubar. Falls du bei einem oder mehreren der anderen Fotos sicher bist, wo du im Wäldchen warst udn daß es im südlicheren Teil war, dann könntest du die Beschreibungen noch korrigieren von "OE-041 … in Attendorn" zu "OE-014… in Lennestadt". Hi Holger! Danke für die Korrekturen! Ich glaube, die anderen müssten alle auf Attendorner Gebiet sein, aber sicher bin ich mir da keineswegs! Keine Ahnung, wo genau ich die Fotos gemacht habe (leider kein GPS-Tracker …). Ich lade gleich noch einige Fotos vom Breiten Hagen hoch, da bin ich mir ebenfalls nicht sicher, die meisten dürften auch zum OE-040 gehören, aber manche vielleicht doch schon zu OE-011. Bei so Minigebieten wie dem Wunderwäldchen ists ja auch schwierig, stehen ja kein Grenzzäune im Wald (glücklicherweise) und selbst Koordinaten müssen nicht immer genau stimmen.
Die Bilder vom Breiten Hagen hab grade angeguckt (schön!), da ist jetzt aber nichts bei, was ich mit Karten und Luftbildern einfach räumlich zuordnen könnte (Wege oder andere "Besonderheiten"; Felsen gibts da mehrere). Holger1959 (talk) 17:36, 20 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Deine Datei „File:Kirchturm Johanniskirche am Markt Hagen.jpg“ zeigt nicht den Kirchturm der Johanniskirche sondern den Kirchturm der kath. I hope you're doing well. In this 4th of July weekend I appreciate my home country (where I am now) and I appreciate modern Germany (I visited Berlin in the winter of last year and enjoyed the city).
