Autopatrol

[edit]
I'm trying to upload some MP3 files of songs/live performances from a band that releases them on bandcamp without a copyright so people can bootleg them freely. Would it be possible to have my MP3 upload ability enabled? Scu ba (talk) 18:29, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's definitely not part of Commons aims to "bootleg" songs. Additionally, you were blocked for a 2nd time for uploading copyvios last year, and I see from your talk page that you had some copyvios from this year. That is definitely concerning to me. MP3s are also complex as far as copyright because the composition also has to be public domain or explicitly freely licensed in addition to performance and the recording. Abzeronow (talk) 18:39, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These are explicitly stated as having been released into the public domain by the band themselves. The "bootlegger" is the name of the website that the band runs. To quote the disclaimer on the website: If anyone wants to release these albums, you’re free to do so. Here you’ll find links to audio files and cover art. Feel free to get creative with it if you like - it’s yours. Scu ba (talk) 19:34, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what else I need to do to argue my case here, I would only need autopatrol status for like a month to get these files up. You can check the website here for their release notice if you don't believe me quoting it. above. Scu ba (talk) 22:53, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Commons is not a repository for anyone's music production. Commons is neither your free web host nor a vehicle for promotion. --Achim55 (talk) 11:47, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
reason: More than 1400 changes in Wikimedia Commons + more than 5000 edits across the projects + donated 2 featured images and 3 high quality Thank you. David Osipov (talk) 07:43, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment user uploaded a copyvio recently. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 09:30, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iwaqarhashmi, autopatrol doesn't remove uploads from new uploads. I'm not that worried about the copyvio, so I'm  supporting granting this user autopatrolled. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 17:37, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alachuckthebuck, I do know that, and that's why I neither supported nor opposed this request. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 17:56, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. You may want to consider adding some more rationale when posing comments like that to avoid confusion. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Will do that, thank you! Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 18:03, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on the fence about this request: good contributions, but as mentioned a copyvio from last month. I probably will wait a while before making a decision. Abzeronow (talk) 17:33, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to upload MP3 files I recorded for words to add to the Arabic Wiktionary. But it asks me to have this license first. (The Arabic Wiktionary does not allow uploading files locally). Since I have a respectable experience with Wikimedia Commons, I would like to request this license. Thank you. Thank you. Mounir Neddi (talk) 12:09, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The user has made good contributions, but they've uploaded lots of problematic pictures in the past few months, which is really concerning. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 15:40, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Iwaqarhashmi
You’re right, I’ve made some unintentional mistakes in the past, but I’ve learned from them and improved the quality of my contributions. Thank you. Mounir Neddi (talk) 18:08, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mounir Neddi: I must say, your image nominations have been exceptional, and I'm confident your contributions will continue to be better in the future. I  Support you and keep up the excellent work! Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 18:20, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to grant you this right temporarily for 3 months on a trial basis, if there aren't further copyvios, I can grant it later permanently. Abzeronow (talk) 17:12, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me! Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 17:17, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me too. Thank you.

✓ Done for three months. Please request autopatroller again around a week before the rights expire. Abzeronow (talk) 22:19, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would make it easier for me to load improved versions, especially distortions and tilting buildings over the original version. Thank you. Thzht (talk) 21:14, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to get autopatrol status so that I can fix straightforwardly bad SVG files without having to go through the file overwriting request system. Lately, I've started working through the categories of bad/fake SVG files to fix the pride flags that have these issues. Yesterday, I fixed File:MLM flag.svg and File:Mad Pride flag.svg: both of these had been wrappers of raster graphics. There are dozens more like them (e.g. all of Category:Proposed aboriginal flags of Australia), and I think it would be easier and faster for if I could overwrite clearly bad SVGs without having to wait on permission via the request system. I've been a regular contributor since June, have made over a thousand edits, and have grown quite familiar with SVG as a file format. Thank you :) Intervex (talk) 22:22, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Zentralbibliothek Zürich: For old images like this one, we need one license for the country of origin, and one for the USA, so I added one. Could you please do the same for all similar images? You probably do that in batches with Help:VisualFileChange.js. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:01, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Thank you for the suggestion, I will update our images accordingly. Zentralbibliothek Zürich (talk) 09:08, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to request autopatrol status so that I can upload higher resolution images from digital libraries and other GLAM institutions without creating many duplicates. Many images were uploaded long ago from highly compressed copies, which are now available in significantly higher quality. Additionally, many images that were previously captured as low-resolution screenshots from digital libraries can now be uploaded in full resolution. Another example is the increasing availability of high-resolution digital copies of medieval manuscripts that were once accessible only through modern book illustrations. Thank you. I'm trying to improve and standardise the maps of Sri Lankan districts, and i've found that the colour scheme of the existing district maps is horrendous. The permissions would make it easier for me to visually improve all the district maps' SVGs without needing to request one by one for all 20+ districts. Thank you. I would like to ask Wikimedia Commons community to kindly grant me the autopatrolling status. I process large archive of photos. I have uploaded some. More to be uploaded regularly. I would like to perform batch operations (like VisualFileChange) on the files upploaded by me. This, and possibly other activities on my own files, may require autopatrolling status. Thank you. UPF official (talk) 11:44, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for contributing! What about your log? --Achim55 (talk) 11:36, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are right. It is a trouble. Thank you for pointing it out. I am trying to edit VRT record (PermissionTicket|id=2023112910010504) on the files that I have previously uploaded. Some records were placed in the wrong location instead of "permission=" when I was beginning. When trying to correct the placement of VRT record on my photos in a batch manner, I find the system blocks me. Possibly, the system considers it vandalism like. Struggling with it. For maintenance of the large collections of images donated by of Naturalis Biodiversity center in the Netherlands, once uploaded by Hans Muller in several categories, (see over all Category:Media_donated_by_Naturalis_Biodiversity_Center), as well as for possible future donations, I would like to be able to rename files on behalf of Naturalis, to make meaningful file names consistent with actual attributions, identified species etc. For example I had to change 449 filenames recently due to reattribution. Luckily on November 2nd, Lucas Werkmeister was willing to help me out, but I have to do a second batch. Therefor I would like to be able to do that in bulk myself, without having to burden admins/filemovers with such requests. Thanks in Advance AHendriksen-collecties (talk) 14:57, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AHendriksen-collecties: Please familiarize yourself with the renaming guidelines since you haven't made any FM requests manually using the default RenameLink gadget. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 18:03, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support granting this user file mover + autopatrolled. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 18:04, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've granted autopatroller, I feel like they should do some FM requests manually. Abzeronow (talk) 21:24, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Let's keep this request open and wait for @AHendriksen-collecties to show us they fully understand the file renaming guidelines by making some FM requests manually. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 07:38, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iwaqarhashmi@Abzeronow Thanks, and understandable, so I did a request manually just now, but this request would be applicable for 449 files, how would you like me to request those as well? (while it is not an exact match with a specific category, but an intersection of two categories). Best, AHendriksen-collecties (talk) 14:43, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's a start. I've renamed the file for you, and you'll have to request renames for the other files individually. I know it's a bit of a manual process but you don't have to do all 449 of them, you can start with a few and we'll see how it goes. Best, Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 15:30, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for renaming this file. I'll do a few more, did one just now.
However, the reason for this request is that many more filenames of files in the Category: Media donated by Naturalis Biodiversity Center need to be updated (reason 3) regarding identification of species or attribution, or harmonized (reason 4) or are simply way too long. AHendriksen-collecties (talk) 16:12, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries and good luck to you! Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 16:46, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've also done a Renaming request for you. Abzeronow (talk) 17:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I have been recently renaming ambiguous files and have gotten a lot of them approved. I think I can help the workload of file movers if I can move them on my own and also take care of moving requests. I understand that my edit count is yet low at Commons, but I have been much more active compared to the last few years and I feel pretty confident with the renaming criteria. Thank you. Hello everyone, requesting this right as I feel this is what I need the most at the moment. Many times, while uploading multiple files together I forget to give a proper name to the file. Then I have to request it to be renamed. Also I have come across files with a non-descriptive name. I believe I can help fix it. Thank you. ShaanSenguptaTalk 15:56, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, could you please give me some examples of the FM requests you've made in the past? I'm having trouble finding any. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 16:42, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iwaqarhashmi below is a list of the most recent ones that I made a couple of days before.
