Houses on the 2900 Block Poplar Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130

[edit]

I appreciate that you cared about copyright prior to your upload - thats good. But your uploads are not so good, you uploaded it under "own work"? Arent this image taken from the website you asked for? File:FEC Caroline C Hunter.jpg is from http://www.fec.gov/members/hunter/hunter.shtml,

 • the author is not you but the U.S. Federal Election Commission,
 • the source is not own work but the weblink
 • the license is PD-USGov in case it is an work of the US federal government, you dont have to place an PD-self on the image until you dont have any copyright

Please correct this for your FEC uploads. --Martin H. (talk) 21:33, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and another tip, you always put a signature into your edit summary, your edit summaries are very good, but the signature is not working their, it only looks strange :) --Martin H. (talk) 21:35, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Some of my difficulties are caused by the use of the Commonist tool without the proper care taken with the input. I know it is not my own work, and I am attempting to correct the information by edits. --Davidt8 (talk) 12:27, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no problem. --Martin H. (talk) 12:59, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated all five FEC Commissioner images that I uploaded on May 5th, but I still have a problem with File:FEC Cynthia_L_Bauerly.jpg and File:FEC Caroline C Hunter.jpg. These two women were inadvertently switched when uploaded, so the Comments section is incorrect. I have corrected everything I can, but there does not seem to be a way to correct the Comments section. How is this done? Alternatively, I could load the same photos with the right information, but I am reluctant to do that. Suggestions? --Davidt8 (talk) 13:17, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The section File history with the comment is created with the upload log, you can not edit it. But thats no problem, your correction is visible in the version history and the section File history is not searchable through the Commons search and, afaik, also not from outside Commons like google. --Martin H. The File:New century guild PHMC marker.jpg which you uploaded has been tagged OTRS pending for more than 30 days. Hello, Davidt8!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:William Howard Taft, Bain bw photo portrait, 1908.jpg

[edit]

Hello. Thanks for your edits. However I reverted your edit here to File:William Howard Taft, Bain bw photo portrait, 1908.jpg. My reasoning: 1)The added category "Famous Republicans" would be more appropriate to add to Category:William Howard Taft than to this individual image, since no other Republican than Taft is visible in the photo and there is no evident reason that he is more famous nor more Republican in this photo than in other photos of him. 2)The added Category:Famous Republicans does not exist on Commons. 3)William Howard Taft's category is already categorized within Category:Republican Party (United States) politicians, which I think is sufficent. If you have questions you can't find the answer to, feel free to ask. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 17:12, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
