png version

On User:Magog the Ogre/PD ineligible/2016 January 12-15 you have png version of TIM logo. Svg is better and enough, you should delete png version... --151.49.66.130 20:58, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

That's not actually my file. It's just a compilation page I keep for maintenance. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:13, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
I mean that you edit the page for orphanize the file. Just click on edit and delete the link from the list... --151.49.66.130 07:26, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
That's not the purpose of the gallery, though. The gallery intentionally lists all files uploaded. But thank you for the suggestion. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:19, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

File to be updated

I found a reference to you from "Uploads_by_new_users". 1 My image https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/77/The_shape_of_the_rotating_Earth.svg did not render properly in Wikimedia 2 My update to fix this seems to be blocked, probable reason is that https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:OgreBot/Uploads_by_new_users/2018_December_12_13:30 links to it

Could you please take required actions to free the image for updates

Stamcose (talk) 20:23, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

@Stamcose: The update certainly didn't break because it was linked on a page - the software doesn't work like that. Your update was blocked because Wikimedia deemed it an invalid SVG for some reason; I suggest you research accordingly. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:45, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

are you a sociopath?

I did not violate copyright, at least not knowingly. I did not lie about it. But you have lied here, and falsely accused and threatened me. You appear to be incompetent to be an admin, since you are incapable of following the rules here. If you take any disciplinary action against me to compensate for your own misbehaviour, I will apply to have you desysop'd. Kwamikagami (talk) 23:23, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

I reported the problem at ANU. I don't really care about the image -- it's been up on my page for too long and doesn't seem to be used anywhere else -- but your behaviour truly is inappropriate and should not go unchallenged. Kwamikagami (talk) 23:40, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) In 2012, a Wikipedian generating all this bollocks Kwamikagami just demonstrated couldn’t hold his social positions for long. And even then Kwamikagami possibly benefited from the “super Mario effect”. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 07:52, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Wikimedia commons warnings

Hello. I don't undertand your message. In my images I always indicate the web address, like in one file you indicated in your message to me, Saint Amelia, Queen of Hungary engraved.jpg, where a warning says there's no author nor web address, but in fact that information appears below (there are a lot of people that don't read before write), so, as I can see, you are lying. In other images I don't write the web address because they are editions from my own, but in this case I can understand the warning, although I indicate that the file is my own work following the rules of wikimedia. I really don't understand the warning in other images where I write the web address. The result of some of these nonsense warnings will be my no longer colaboration in wikimedia commons (very necesary in my opinion), so thanks for NOTHING and good by. Enciclopedia1993 (talk) 08:03, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello. I have made changes in almost all the images I uploaded to wikimedia in terms of copyright and web sources from images that are not from my own. If you or other person finnally delete them, he or she will be responsible for the deletion of images from public domain and for damaging wikimedia. If that's what you want, go ahead. Enciclopedia1993 (talk) 17:24, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Comment For public domain sculptures, you also need to make sure the photograph is freely licensed. PD-Art doesn't cover sculptures. Abzeronow (talk) 17:27, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
@Enciclopedia1993: most are good, but there are a few remaining which have the wrong license: e.g., File:Louise Boyer, duchess of Noailles.jpg. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 11:36, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

You tagged some PDFs as {{BadPDF}}, but most of them do not contain any Raster-data. For such files please create a different category/template.  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 00:35, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

@JoKalliauer: if you're going to scold me on my talk page, could you please at least tell me which files I tagged not according to your liking? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:42, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
@JoKalliauer: ah, I see it's in my ping history. Well, when I created that template, I purposefully worded it to state that it was a PDF with graphic data. It doesn't say raster data. The point is, these files shouldn't be in PDF format. But thank you for bruskly informing me what the template that I created actually meant, and how I should use it. File deletion request discussion ?

Hi - I was just wondering if there has been further progress with the deletion request for the file 'You Do Not Exist.pdf' - I have responded as requested and there seems the discussion ends. I am eager to know if the file may be permitted to remain here or if the file will be removed. Thewolfde (talk) 11:28, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

@Thewolfde: As I said previously, we do not accept paper's giving someone's personal philosophy. Maybe your paper would change the world; great. Unfortunately, everyone seems to think that on some level. It's just not in our scope. May I recommend a blogging service of some sort? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:46, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
I have put in an un-delete request, with reasoning. I also hear you state that everyoneseems to think they can change the world on some level. Well I hope so, because that is exactly what changing the world is going to take.

On that, the way I see it, we are now all in complete agreement. Please correct me where I am wrong, and change the world in the way we all know we can. Also, I am writing the blog. My talk page on Wikipedia EN should have a link. The file being restored here at Commons, is a great start on your part. Have a read also ;) Comprehension is not a requisite, just read it. Hello. The name "PD-Russia+US" is more suitable for this template. Alex Spade (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

@Alex Spade: it doesn't do much good to give your suggestion after we've already had discussion and decided on the issue. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:28, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
You have decided issue with -1923, but in this case you have created another issue. All templates (except the Russian one) in the discussion were not country specific, and now "-expired" applies mnemonicly to Russia (Russian law, not to the US law), which is not good. Alex Spade (talk) 11:11, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
@Alex Spade: I'm sorry you feel that way. I implemented the community discussion as best as I could read it. I do not have any plans to change, since it is one of a series. You can bring the issue up anew. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:18, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

cleanup.js removing {{Credit line}}?

Was the removal of {{Credit line}} in this edit deliberate? My bot put it back a few days later, so if there's some reason why it should be omitted, I'd like to know. --bjh21 (talk) 20:19, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

@Bjh21: certainly not. I'll get that fixed ASAP. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 21:35, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
@Bjh21: I'm sorry, I misread the original diff. I thought you were reporting a bug in the bot, but in fact I removed that by hand. I did so because I didn't see why it was included; the original uploader didn't ask for it, and it was redundant. That said you may know more than I do about the situation, so I may have been mistaken. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:49, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
The {{Credit line}} is there to satisfy the requirement of CC BY-SA 2.0 (and all pre-4.0 CC licences including BY) that the work's title be conveyed along with the work. You're right that in this case that's strictly unnecessary, since the picture's title (Kirk Braddan New Church) appears elsewhere in the file description, but I prefer to put it in the credit line because that makes it clear that it's part of the licence-required attribution, and because the description might get edited (e.g. if it's inaccurate). --bjh21 (talk) 11:15, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Why 2052

Hello, I am trying to figure out why 2052 is the year to undelete Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kassaman instrumental.ogg. Do you remember why you've applied that category? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gone Postal (talk • contribs) 07:43, January 16, 2019‎ (UTC)

@Gone Postal: I determined it will not be public domain in the United States until that date based on this old version of the article. Upon further consideration, I'm not sure that it was published until a later date. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:29, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Circumcision map update

Hello! I changed the map and tried to update it myself using the latest figures on my homecountry of Albania (Balkans, Europe), but for some reason does not appear. In the file history it shows correct, but on the preview it remains unchanged. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Circumcision_Prevalence_using_red_for_the_most_circumcising_countries.svg Can you help me if possible? Compression artifacts

Hello.
In the broad generality, indexed color is a form of compression, hence Dithering is a sort of “compression artifact”—although File:Fresno State Wordmark.gif occupies 51 KiB, really compressed?—but {{Artifacts}} currently states something about JPEG and nothing at all about dithering. Therefore. If you want dithered pictures (unpleasantly or unintentionally) to bear some cleanup template, then make something like {{Dithered}}; otherwise I bluntly remove {{artifacts}} from wherever JPEG is not relevant. I do not understand why you have reverted the description of this image that I have modified:

  1. Delete the {{inkscape}} tag. This indicates that I've modified it with this vectorial image editor!
  2. Change of Category:SVG human body cavities to Category:Body cavities. It is clear that the image is of an "human" and therefore is more specific and the type of drawing is SVG. I advise you to see the files contained in "SVG human body cavities". Maybe you do not know what is an SVG file/image?
  3. Added again {{PD-USGov}}. I have removed the label because the drawing is fully modified.

I ask that you reconsider what you have done.

--Jmarchn (talk) 19:35, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

@Jmarchn: every image must contain a license. Your page no longer contains a license. If you remove the PD marker you must add a new one. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:38, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
Since you only do not agree with point 3. I recover my edition of the other points. --Jmarchn (talk) 20:35, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
@JMarchn: that is fine. You may wish to add your own license if it is no longer principally the work of the US government. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:25, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
@JMarchn: in fact it would have been better if you'd created a new file. I know it's a pain to relink, but it helps alleviate copyright issues like these. As it stands, your files must be deleted unless they receive a proper copyright notice. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:32, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Request for advice

I would greatly appreciate your advice on the following matter. The page 1, which contains an image of the prosecutor Alberto Nisman, claims to be under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. Commons lacks free use images of Alberto Nisman. I would like to know your opinion about the possible upload of that image. Again, thanks for your opinion. Greetings. --Gabriel Sozzi (talk) 11:32, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

@Gabriel Sozzi: sorry, we require all content to allow commercial reuse in order to be on Commons. That means only cc-by-sa, cc-by, and cc-zero. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:23, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

File:Nordic Museum - Old World 'forest' 01.jpg, File:Nordic Museum - birch column 01.jpg: you tagged these as having copyright issues. I think it was just a VFC screwup that had wiped out the license templates. I've now reverted that and, with it, your notification template, but I'm hitting you up here in case I've misunderstood. Do you still think there is an issue with these for their content infringing someone else's copyright, or was it just the accidental lack of a license template? - Jmabel ! talk 01:27, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

@Jmabel: I just noticed they lacked a license so I tagged them. That is all. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:40, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. - Jmabel ! talk 04:04, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

File:North Florida Wordmark.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Ankry (talk) 18:34, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

What is the problem with finishing your unfinished work at this file? You are well aware of the huge backlog of Category:Images without source and also of the huge amount of work that has been spend by a handful of people of the past three years to get this backlog down from 65k to the current 30k. What is the point of frustrating this maintenance work by unnecessarily polluting this maintenance category? Jcb (talk) 15:41, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Because a) it seems to have been lost with time, and b) it doesn't matter. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 04:37, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Of course it does matter, you are frustrating maintenance work. If the copyright situation is clear anyway, you can use {{unknown|source}} in the source field, but please make sure that you don't leave this field empty, in order to prevent the file from ending up in the Category:Images without source problem category. Jcb (talk) 16:07, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
No, I'm not frustrating anyone's maintenance work. This is just you being obstinate. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:12, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
This is the second time you utter a personal attack over your error, while also still not fixing it. Your behaviour is an admin unworthy. I have had the impression for a long time that we were on the same side at this project, but I was apparently wrong. In the past years I have fixed dozens of pages after your buggy bot created a syntax error. From now on I will just revert your bot if I see it breaking some syntax. Jcb (talk) 16:03, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Calm down. No one's out to get you. My statement was no more a personal attack than the many statements you made toward me. Please consider the way you talk to people if you don't want someone to be equally blunt with you. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:40, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
When are you going to fill in that source field? Jcb (talk) 12:03, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
"Calm down. No one's out to get you."
Could hardly be further from the truth. When he reported me on COM:AN he didn't even notify or ping me, he attacked Guanaco, blocked Jdforrester's WMF account (which in hindsight may have been warranted, but wasn't warranted when it was done) which was reversed by PierreSelim (to which Jcb responded that "It's rather unprofessional and poor practice to not wait for a response of Jdforrester."), A.Savin openly supports a desysop. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
"From now on I will just revert your bot if I see it breaking some syntax." Like you never make a mess. Except you don't break syntaxes (actually you also break syntaxes), you break people. How many times I cleaned up after you, or at least tried to, because people can't be fixed with some curly brackets. And as I'm no longer allowed to watch your talk page, nobody is cleaning up after you anymore. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 01:43, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Your bot completely wiped some fields in 2015. Arguably their contents were not super useful, but still. Was that intentional? You know Jcb doesn't like wiped fields. This image has now been nominated for deletion because of the action of your bot. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 12:31, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

With all due respect, I've addressed this many times, and I'm getting pretty sick of asking people to read the manual before contacting me. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:19, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, this interaction with Jcb has left me in a sour mood, and I was unnecessarily nasty. What I mean to say is, it's right in the FAQ on the bot's page. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:32, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Well, in that case one the following needs to happen:
  • The bot needs to be adjusted to stop wiping fields (or enter {{Unknown}} into them) and the log of the bot should be examined so the bot can also do this for all the files of which the bot has wiped fields that cause the file to go into some maintenance category.
  • We remove Jcb from the project.
The latter will never happen, so I suggest the bot gets adjusted and also re-processes all files from which it wiped source/date/author fields. I'm not Jcb. I didn't tag File:North Florida Wordmark.png as "no source" and I didn't nominate File:Lizhongren.jpg with a very odd rationale. (the author is irrelevant for China) So I personally can't fix this. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 00:48, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
The issue that Jcb had with the page was not that my bot removed invalid data from the source field, it is that the file was, in fact, unsourced. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:20, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I agree, the bot is not the problem here. Jcb (talk) 10:36, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
Magog, you do realize that's the exact same reason why North Florida Wordmark was deleted? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 14:08, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

You know nothing about real god damn country music. Thanks to Alan Jackson (aka the Nickelback of country music), not only is country music seen as a laughing stock, but traditional country sounds are being replaced by hip-hop, EDM, 80's hair metal, and Drake style R&B. Alan Jackson did to country music what Bush did to Iraq and Obama did to Libya. I wish there would be a zombie uprising of dead country legends to put and end to this mess that Alan Jackson has made country music into. Dear Magog, This poster is prior to the internet. But I will ask Cannon for approval. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Josephintechnicolor (talk • contribs) 06:52, February 13, 2019 (UTC)

@Josephintechnicolor: if you don't have the approval of Cannon, then why are you marking the image as creative commons? Please stop making up fake licenses or you may be blocked. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:30, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
Hello Magog, the image says that "reproductions are allowed for newspapers and periodicals" and it states that plainly in the fine print, bottom left. For legal purposes the internet is now considered a digital newspaper or digital periodical, correct? So technically that disclaimer should apply to the present day a.k.a. Creative Commons. I am quite certain that many publishers and authors from the past who have now long been dead prior to the internet only gave rights for newspapers and periodicals prior to the internet, right?, yet their work has freely been applied via Creative Commons to the internet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons_license perhaps we should ask the Tea house but I think I am in the right on this one, please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Josephintechnicolor (talk • contribs) 08:10, February 18, 2019‎ (UTC)
@Josephintechnicolor: No, literally none of that is correct. Things don't just become Creative Commons because they're on the internet and you want them to be. Some works which are extremely old become public domain, which has nothing to do with Creative Commons. But this work is nowhere near old enough (it won't be public domain until at around 2083). Please read the links on your talk page. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:57, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
@Magog the Ogre Hello Magog, I was strictly referring to this comment on the image "reproductions are allowed for newspapers and periodicals" not the age of the image I felt the language "reproductions are allowed for newspapers and periodicals" should also apply to CC? I will check the links and/or perhaps just ask Tea House, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Josephintechnicolor (talk • contribs) 04:56, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
@Magog the Ogre Perhaps this is the better way...."This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." I will upload and use this selection, ok with you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Josephintechnicolor (talk • contribs) 05:28, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
@Josephintechnicolor: "Reproductions are allowed for newspapers and periodicals only" doesn't mean CC. CC is a very specific modern license, and only works for which the author explicitly opts in are CC.
As for fair use, Commons doesn't accept it. English Wikipedia accepts it under very limited circumstances which probably won't fit your needs. You would simply need to get permission from Cannon Films, Inc.
I realize that's not what you're hoping to hear, but it is the answer for how we treat copyrighted materials on here. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:40, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

The photo of William Dyce Cay to the subject's WP page doesn't look like a genuine 19th century photo. It looks like a retro vintage style modern creation. (talk page stalker) @MelezioMelezioMelezio: that page was apparently being vandalized by unregistered users, so only confirmed accounts can post there. You have a couple of options: either wait four days until your account is autoconfirmed, or post a message on a Talk page (your own User talk, or the Talk page of the file in question), in which you {{Ping}} the user (or otherwise include a link to the user’s page), who should then receive a notification. Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:Magog the Ogre/PD ineligible, has failed. Due to software limitations, the bot has a hard upper-limit of about 6000 files per day (including overflow galleries), while your gallery had 16190 files.

This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).

Please make your request for removal within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.

Thank you. Magog the Ogre (via OgreBot (talk) 03:27, 22 April 2019 (UTC))

Thank you!

Why PD-ROC-Traffic Markings in Template:PD-ROC-Presidential Office Gazette

Please explain how relevant and how used by bots. [5]--Jusjih (talk) 17:48, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

@Jusjih: my bot uses hidden categories to track files. At least one other automated script uses categories to detect license status. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:40, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
To track files, use a hidden category other than Category:PD-ROC-Traffic Markings. Overcrowding it will no longer tolerable your unilateral thought once thousands of gazettes are uploaded. Administrative regulation, not presidential promulgation, regulates Taiwanese road markings.--Jusjih (talk) 22:55, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
@Jusjih: overcrowding is fine. We have millions of files in categories like Category:PD-self or Category:CC-BY-SA-4.0. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:33, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
Purposely overcrowding any category with irrelevant ones violates Commons:Categories#Improper categorization of categories is a cause of over-categorization. As Category:PD-ROC-Traffic Markings is not even relevant in Template:PD-ROC-Presidential Office Gazette, may I advise alternate category for your bot?--Jusjih (talk) 03:44, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
@Jusjih: That's decidedly not the case for license categories. Why are you fighting this so hard? The categories are useful, they are used in this way for every single license template on Commons. If you don't understand the technical process, please defer to those of us who do. Please especially quit playing the "I didn't hear that" game. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:48, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

#AlanJacksonKilledCountry

You know nothing about real god damn country music. Thanks to Alan Jackson (aka the Nickelback of country music), not only is country music seen as a laughing stock, but traditional country sounds are being replaced by hip-hop, EDM, 80's hair metal, and Drake style R&B. Alan Jackson did to country music what Bush did to Iraq and Obama did to Libya. I wish there would be a zombie uprising of dead country legends to put and end to this mess that Alan Jackson has made country music into. Merle would go right for this soy boy and slap him like how Moe slapped Curly in the Three Stooges. License for FoP painting?

Thank you for pointing out that my upload File:Franz Seraph Beck, Porträt, 1.jpeg is missing a license. It is a picture (Self-photographed) of a fixed public information board (touristic itinerary), in Germany, so it should be covered by FoP. (It is probably {{PD-old-assumed}}, too, but I don't know for sure.) WC considers the copyright status of such two-dimensional copies of two-dimensional works as identical to the original's.

I do not know which license to assign to the picture. The photo itself is just a copy, so it cannot have a license by itself. And the CR status of the original does not matter, as I claim {{FoP-Germany}}. Can you advise me?

Many thanks in advance, -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 18:19, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

@Renardo la vulpo: public artwork is either copyrightable by the photographer or by the original artist. If we're saying that a photographer didn't show any originality in a photograph, then I think it's a serious stretch to say that the artwork should also be considered non-copyrightable by virtue of being public: having one's cake and eating it too, so to speak. I cannot imagine many courts would be sympathetic to both arguments. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:19, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Renardo la vulpo: also, are you sure you can't ascertain the artist? This very much matters in Germany. And are you aware that there's a dick n balls in the reproduction? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:22, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Renardo la vulpo: last time, I promise. There's an inscription in the upper left that gives the artist as Max Georg Rossmann. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:24, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Maybe I should try to retouch the picture. -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 16:29, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
I uploaded a retouched copy. By the way I was not suggesting that the artwork was not copyrightable, just that its photo may be communicated publicly by virtue of FoP. But since you found out the name of the artist that's no longer relevant here. -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 17:15, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello Magog the Ogre

I wasn't aware of the files I'd uploaded prior to a few days ago. Thanks for the heads up. My only question is that due to Iran not having copyright laws, doesn't that permit me to re-use their photos?Migboy123 (talk) 23:08, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

@Migboy123: your assumption is mistaken. Iran does have copyright rules. Their propaganda agencies often wave them (e.g., Mehrnews), but this requires a statement and a source to verify. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:45, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I just realized that a few years ago you deleted a work I had uploaded:

The work is not used in "sensesweb" (I checked), as claimed in the deletion notice, and was done by myself. Can you please let me know how best to proceed here? And why did you think I got it from "sensesweb" (which is from a friend of mine) anyway? --Thomas.haslwanter (talk) 16:17, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

@Thomas.haslwanter: the description you placed on the page contained only an external link to Sensesweb, which (at the time) had a tool for creating visuals, and a GFDL tag without any claim of authorship. That doesn't sound to me like you were the author; it sounds like you did a screen grab of someone else's work. Can you explain this discrepency? Thanks for uploading File:Bike Friday Logo.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

@AndrewDressel: Hi. Sorry for the confusion. A quick rundown: per policy, the uploader should provide a license tag to each image s/he uploads, or it will be deleted. Yours did not have a license, hence the notice; however, Alexis Jazz and I fixed it this time.
Also, while fair use images are not allowed on Commons, in your case we are able to skirt this requirement since your upload is too simple to copyright. In the future, you can upload images that fall below the threshold of originality with the same license we provided here. If you want to upload a fair use image, it must go on Wikipedia, not Commons. Let me know, or you can ask for help on the Wikipedia media help page. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:33, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
