• Elemwala (এলেমওয়ালা) (https://elemwala.toolforge.org): is a proof-of-concept interface that allows you to input abstract content and get natural language text in a given output language. There may well be errors with particular inputs, and the text may not be quite as natural as you might expect, but that's where your improvements to your language's lexemes, other Wikidata items, and the tool's source code come in!
• mlscores: Tool for calculating multilinguality score of Wikidata items (including properties). E.g. for Wikidata (Q2013), the scores are - en: 99.66%, fr: 89.49%, es: 84.07%, pt: 68.47%. For instance of (P31), the scores are - en: 99.86%, fr: 87.12%, es: 80.83%, pt: 61.37%.

• Launch of WikiProject Deprecate P642: The goal of this project is to prepare for deprecation, and eventual removal, of the property of (P642). Currently, of (P642) is labeled as "being deprecated", meaning its use is still allowed, but discouraged. From a peak of around 900,000 uses, the property now has around 700,000 uses (see status here). Our goal is to reduce that as much as possible in a systematic way, while ensuring that appropriate properties exist to replace all valid uses of of (P642). The latter is key to officially deprecating the property. Before removing the property, we want to get as close to zero uses as possible.

Novinky pro editory

• Začíná odstraňování rozšíření Structured Discussion (známého jako Flow). Toto rozšíření není udržované a způsobuje problémy. Bude nahrazeno DiscussionTools, které se používají na kterékoliv běžné diskusní stránce. Bude kontaktována první skupina wiki, aby přestaly Flow používat a všechny nástěnky ve Flow přesunuly na podstránky coby archivy. Na těchto wiki budou mezi 22. a 28. říjnem 2024 všechny stránky ve Flow, které nejsou podstránkami, automaticky přesunuty na podstránky skriptem. Dne 28. října 2024 pak budou na těchto wiki všechny nástěnky ve Flow přepnuty do režimu pouze pro čtení. [2][3]
• Tým Search Platform team při WMF pracuje na usnadnění vyhledávání v rodném jazyce. Změna z minulého týdne, týkající se přes 30 jazyků, usnadňuje vyhledávání slov s diakritikou. Toto se týká plnotextového vyhledávání i metod pokročilého vyhledávání, jako jsou klíčová slova hastemplate a incategory. K dispozici je více technických podrobností (včetně několika dalších menších aktualizací vyhledávání). [4]
• Podívejte se na všech 20 úloh vytvořených komunitou, které byly minulý týden vyřešeny. Například na ruskou Wikipedii byl nainstalován EditCheck a byly provedeny opravy některých chybějících stylopisů v uživatelském rozhraní.

Novinky pro technické přispěvatele

• Uživatelé používající nástroj na Toolforge Earwig's Copyright Violation Detector se nyní před spouštěním kontrol využívajících vyhledávač budou muset přihlásit pomocí svého účtu Wikimedia. Tato změna pomůže bránit zneužívání systému externími roboty. Děkujeme uživateli Chlod za tato vylepšení. [5]
• Uživatelé Phabricatoru nyní opět mohou vytvářet tickety a přidávat k existujícím ticketům komentáře pomocí e-mailu. Posílání e-mailů do Phabricatoru bylo opraveno. [6]
• Některé HTML elementy v rozhraní jsou nyní obalené značkou <bdi>, aby náš HTML výstup více odpovídal webovým standardům. K dalším takovým změnám bude docházet v následujících týdnech. Tato změna může rozbít některé nástroje, které závisejí na dosavadní struktuře HTML rozhraní. Uvědomte si, že záviset na struktuře HTML rozhraní není doporučeno a kdykoliv může dojít k poruše. [7]

Novinka týdne

• Tým pro mobilní aplikace vydal aktualizaci navigace aplikace pro iOS, která je nyní dostupná v rámci nejnovější verze v App storu. Tým přidal nové menu Profil, které umožňuje snadný přístup z článku k editorským funkcím, jako jsou upozornění a sledované stránky, a přenáší tlačítko Podpořit na místo více přístupné pro uživatele, kteří čtou článek. Jde o první fázi většího plánovaného přepracování navigace, které umožní přechod aplikace pro iOS z aplikace určené hlavně pro čtenáře na aplikaci, která plně podporuje čtení i editaci. Na základě požadavků dobrovolníků přidala nadace Wikimedia v posledních letech více editačních funkcí a zlepšila podporu komunikace na wiki.

Novinky pro editory

• Čtenáři Wikipedie si nyní mohou stáhnout rozšíření prohlížeče a experimentovat s některými ranými nápady na potenciální funkce, které doporučují články k dalšímu čtení, automaticky shrnují články a zlepšují funkce vyhledávání. Chcete-li zjistit další podrobnosti a zůstat v obraze, podívejte se na stránku Content Discovery Experiments týmu pro Web a přihlaste se k odběru jeho newsletteru.

Current work

Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module

We will add a new module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version on beta wikis and we will soon start an A/B test on our pilot wikis. This module will only display on the Newcomer Homepage if communities decide to utilize it, so learn how to configure the Community Updates module, or share your thoughts on the project's talk page.

One design concept aimed to increase constructive activation

Constructive activation experimentation

After showcasing early design ideas at Wikimania, we conducted user testing of design prototypes. We now aim to engage communities in further discussions and plan to run a targeted experiment, presenting a structured task within the reading view to logged-in new account holders with zero edits.

Community Configuration

This Community Configuration extension was developed to help communities customize wiki features to meet their unique needs. The Growth team is now helping other Wikimedia Foundation teams make their products configurable:

• The Moderation Tools team now provides Community Configuration for Automoderator. (T365046)
• Certain Babel extension settings will be configurable soon. (T328171)

Future work

As part of the Growth team annual plan, we will continue to investigate ways to increase constructive activation on mobile, while also working with Data Products to move forward A/B testing functionality via the Metrics Platform.

Community events

• Growth team members presented Community Configuration: Shaping On-Wiki Functionality Together at Wikimania (slides). The session recording is available to watch on YouTube. This session provided an update on the Community Configuration project and introduced details about the upcoming features that communities will soon be able to configure. Representatives from the Moderator Tools, Editing, Web, and Campaigns teams shared their plans for utilizing Community Configuration in the future. Following these presentations, the WMF Growth team's Benoît Evellin and Martin Urbanec answered audience questions.
• Habib Mhenni gave a presentation of how mentorship works at WikiIndaba 2024. The recording is available.

• V listopadu bude pro usnadnění nalezení a opravení chyb na testovací wiki nasazeno rozšíření Charts. Probíhá také bezpečnostní audit, který umožní širší testování nasazením na pilotní wiki. Můžete si přečíst aktualizaci projektu z října a podívat se na aktuální dokumentaci a příklady na beta Wikipedii.
• Podívejte se na všech 32 úloh vytvořených komunitou, které byly minulý týden vyřešeny. Například Pediapress.com, externí služba vytvářející knihy ze stránek Wikipedie, odteď může používat naše mapy, a vkládat tak předrenderované obrázky map v infoboxech do svých výtisků Wikipedie. [17]

Novinky pro technické přispěvatele

Tool of the week

• Wikidata One Click Info is a multilingual extension that enables you to search for any item or word that you come across while reading or browsing online. It's an extension that makes Wikidata's data easy to retrieve and access. Install on Chrome browser or Firefox browser. A short video about the usage of the extension.
• CAT🐈: most frequent properties a simple Observable tool which shows the most frequent properties for a set of Items.
• Are you able to learn languages with Wikidata content? In Ordia there is the "Guess Image from Pronunciation" game you can use to learn a few words from various languages.

• A small project on benchmarking query engine performance on useful Wikidata queries is asking for queries from the Wikidata user community to potentially be part of the benchmark. If you are a user of any Wikidata SPARQL service please send queries that you find useful to Peter F. Patel-Schneider. Say what you used the query for and whether you would like to be noted as the source of the query. Queries that take considerable time or time out are especially welcome, particularly if the query caused you to switch from the official Wikidata Query Service to some other service. • Codex: We are continuing with the migration of the Query Builder to Codex, the new design system. The migration of Special:NewLexeme is almost finished.
• Query Service: We have updated the list of languages for the language selector in the UI (phab:T358572)
• Vector 2022: We are continuing to adress issues of the Item UI in dark mode (phab:T369385)
• Wikibase REST API:
  • We are moving from v0 to v1.
  • We have finished the work on the new endpoint for creating Properties.

Novinky pro editory

• Stevardi nyní mohou globální blokace účtů způsobovat globální autoblokování. Tato pomůže stevardům bránit zneužití ze strany uživatelů, kteří byli globálně zablokováni. Zahrnuto je i znemožnění globálně zablokovaným dočasným účtům na 24 hodin pokračovat v editaci ukončením relace nebo změnou prohlížeče. Předtím mohly dočasné účty pokračovat v editaci ukončením své současné relace nebo změnou prohlížeče. Jde o vylepšení nástroje proti zneužití v rámci projektu Temporary Accounts. Můžete si přečíst více o postupu práce na klíčových funkcích pro dočasné účty. [20]
• Wiki, které si nechali nainstalovat rozšíření CampaignEvents, mohou nyní používat funkci Collaboration List. Tento seznam poskytuje nový, jednoduchý způsob, jak mohou přispěvatelé na svých wiki objevit wikiprojekty. Děkujeme týmu Campaing za odvedení práce, která byla v plánu pro rok 2024/25. Development

• Lua: We changed the Wikibase function getAllStatements logic to behave as getBestStatements. When invoked, it was returning mutable direct-values, now it will return a copy of those values (which are immutable). (phab:T270851)
• Wikibase REST API:
  • Wikibase REST API is now on version 1!
  • We've finished the work on the create Property endpoint so it is now possible to create Properties via the REST API.
• Configuration: We removed 'mainpage' from $wgForceUIMsgAsContentMsg for Wikidata as requested so translations of the main page are available (phab:T184386)
• mul language code: We moved it to the top of the termbox so labels and aliases in mul are visible first (phab:T371802)
• Revision table size: We are investigating the current state of the revision table of Wikidata's database and what the next steps should be to address its issues.

Novinky pro editory

• Na wiki se zapnutým rozšířením Translate uživatelé zaznamenají, že FuzzyBot bude automaticky zakládat přeložené verze kategorií použitých na přeložených stránkách. [23]
• Podívejte se na všech 29 úloh vytvořených komunitou, které byly minulý týden vyřešeny. Například byl včas vyřešena žádost o použití rozšíření SecurePoll při zvláštních volbách správců na anglické Wikipedii. [24]

Novinky pro technické přispěvatele

• Ve verzi 1.44.0-wmf-2 byla změněna logika funkce Wikibase getAllStatements, aby se chovala jako getBestStatements. Volání funkce odteď vrací kopii hodnot, které jsou neměnné. [25]
• Uživatelé Wikimedia REST API, jako jsou operátoři robotů a správci nástrojů, mohou být ovlivněni probíhajícími aktualizacemi. API bude přesměrovávat některé endpointy s obsahem stránek z RESTbase na novější endpointy MediaWiki REST API. Dotčené endpointy zahrnují získávání metadat stránky/revize a obsah vyrenderovaný do HTML. Tyto změny budou na testovací wiki dostupné v průběhu tohoto týdne, další projekty budou následovat. Tato změna by neměla mít vliv stávající funkcionalitu, ale aktivní uživatelé dotčených endpointů by měli ověřit chování na testovací wiki a jakékoliv obavy sdílet v souvisejícím ticketu ve Phabricatoru.

• Správci a uživatelé projektů Wikimedia, kde je zapnutý Automoderator, mohou nyní monitorovat a vyhodnocovat důležité metriky akcí Automoderatoru. Tato nástěnka na Supersetu počítá a agreguje metriky chování Automoderatoru v projektech, na kterých je nasazen. Novinky pro editory

• Uživatelům projektů Wikimedia se odteď zobrazí upozornění, když se pokusí vytvořit přesměrování na stránku, která neexistuje. Tímto se zmenší počet nefunkčních přesměrování na našich projektech. [27]
• Podívejte se na všech 42 úloh vytvořených komunitou, které byly minulý týden vyřešeny. Například knihovna Pywikibot, automatizující činnost na webech na MediaWiki, byla na Toolforge aktualizována na verzi 9.5.0. [28]

Novinky pro technické přispěvatele

• Na wiki, které používají rozšíření FlaggedRevs, mají být stránky vytvořené nebo přesunuté uživateli s odpovídajícími oprávněními pages automaticky označeny jako zkontrolované. Tato funkce odnedávna nefunguje a opravy by měly být nasazeny tento týden. Děkujeme Danielovi a uživateli Wargo za to, že na tom pracovali. [29][30]

• Na Diffu byl uveřejněn článek o dočasných účtech, dostupný ve více než 15 jazycích. Přečtěte si jej, abyste se dozvěděli, co jsou dočasné účty, jaký je jejich dopad na různé skupiny uživatelů a jaký je plan jejich zavedení na všech wiki.

Setkání a události

• Techničtí dobrovolníci se odteď mohou registrovat na 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, který se bude konat v Istanbulu v Turecku. Žádosti o cestovní a ubytovací stipendia lze podávat od 12. listopadu do 10. prosince 2024. Registrace na událost se uzavřou v polovině dubna 2025. Wikimedia Hackathon je každoroční setkání, které spojuje globální technickou komunitu ke spolupráci na stávajících projektech a zkoumání nových nápadů.
• Připojte se tento týden ke komunitním výzvám Wikimedia Commons, abyste pomohli s prioritizací podpory Commons plánované na období 2025–2026.
