wanted to make an intro post to pin, so here goes!

hi! the name’s art, short for artemi. i’m a self-taught artist in my late 20s

my art tag is /art draws, I love to play with a lot of mediums, use bright colors, and draw some critters.

A small Posca pen painted sign of three cat faces behind a red circle with a diagonal line through it, where it intersects with the cats and text, it color shifts what is beneath it. The top of the sign reads "NO GIRLS" and bottom text reads "ALLOWED" The first cat is Clementine, she is a long haired calico with a happy closed-eye expression. Her face is mostly white, but she has a navy blue cap that is longer on one side, a spot on her right ear as well as her nose, and a tiny bit of orange on top of her head. The middle cat is Noodle, a very round tabby cat with an off-white chin. Her eyes are green and she has a mischievous off-kilter smile. The third cat is Hazel, a tuxedo cat with a half moon above her chin that gives her a look of constant shock. Her perfectly round yellow eyes do not help with the matter. (This sign hangs at cat eye height on our kitchen door.)

A linocut print of a flaming anatomical heart being stabbed through with a dagger. There is blood dripping from the dagger tip, and the bottom of the heart. It is on a sheet of paper that has been messily ripped from a sketch book. It is red and black on white, and there are lines scattered throughout the print from the block not being entirely carved away. On the bottom left there is writing that says "03/05 dec 25, 2022, Artemi" it sits on a warm golden wood floor.

An array of 9 tarot cards, The Fool (Deep Red), Temperance (Navy Blue), The High Priestess (Orange Red), Strength (Minty Green), The Tower (Lavender), Wheel of Fortune (Light Teal), The Magician (Bright Red), The Hanged Man (Medium Blue), and The Empress (Orange). They are painted and collaged on top of a traditional Rider-Waite-Smith tarot card set, and are based largely on that original art, with changes made to the characters present. The deck is made with posca pens in rainbow order and news print. Each card has one main color of the rainbow, a white base, black lines, with gold and newsprint accents.

A mobile cover image for my comic, farragone, everything has a water color texture but is done digitally. I've adjusted the spellings of the names so they are read properly out loud. The four seasons stand for a selfie, Sicksy, who has curly short red hair, golden eyes, and many freckles, holds the camera and a peace sign. They wear a golden yellow tee shirt, and have a mouth shaped like a 3. Behind him, stand Talvi, Kayvaat, and Kaysuh. Talvi is very small and short, she has layered light blonde hair that goes to her shoulders, icy blue eyes, and a small white simple snowflake on her cheek. Her arms crossed and mouth slanted, one eyebrown slightly lower than the other. She wears brown corduroy pants, a deep teal sweater, and a white collared shirt with very pointy collars that end in bright red hearts. Kayvaat stands the tallest, her eyes are closed with a grin. She has rich warm medium brown skin, medium brown curly hair parted down the side, and a scar-like simply eye tattoo on her forehead. She wears a long sleeve off-white shirt with olive horizontal stripes, and a long lavender skirt. Kaysuh is a Chinese man with angular features, short dark hair, and deep brown eyes. He looks unimpressed with one eyebrow slightly lower than the other, and mouth a straight line. He is wearing a traditional black suit, white collared shirt, and an olive green tie. Behind them is a vague watercolor with some chalk-textured crosshatching at the bottom. It goes from a deeper red, to a light blue.

A traditional piece that is a multimedia collage and posca pen portrait of three border collies owned by my family. It is on a long narrow wooden sign that has two indents on the top and bottom that was repurposed for this piece. The background is mostly varying colors of blue strips cut from national geographics, with some pops of red here and there. Placed on top are three simple cartoonish portraits of dog busts stacked on top of each other. They are done in navy blue on white paper with medium blue to highlight, their eyes are left as white dots. The top one is Abby, an older girl who passed when she was fifteen, she has a thin blaze with a lot of white in her eyebrows and nose. Her eyes are very upright and pointy. The middle dog is Bailey, who at the time was 5, she has a wide white blaze and very floppy ears with long wavy hair on them. The bottom dog is Dulcie, this side of her face is mostly white with a paisley-shaped patch over the eye, she was a puppy at the time, so her snout is much shorter.

Another small digital web banner with small sketches of pets in my life. They are surrounded by a chalk-textured soft gradient from purples to blues to greens. The first sketch is of Clementine in a puddle, her tummy and feet up, eyes closed, and one ear squished beneath her. The second is of Fievel, a whippet mix, laying on a pillow with very large round eyes and dark ears. The third sketch is of Noodle, the very round tabby, she lays on her back and looks forward with wide eyes, her front feet up, and eyes point. The final sketch is of Clementine again, mid-stretch. Her front feet are sticking straight out at different angles, and her face is almost entirely her toothy mouth.

ethics of making AI images aside, I do find a bit amusing the kinds of sob stories and mental gymnastics people make up to pretend like drawing is this super technical skill with an impossibly high barrier of entry when its like one of the first hobbies toddlers pick up
suddenly a lot of people think they got the next Lord of the Rings in their head but they were never able to turn their stories into anything tangible because the evil elitist artists are hogging all the talent and skill and they need a bajilion years of training or something as if one of the most popular manga and anime of the past decade wasn’t made by a guy that draws like this

I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that “How many of tumblr’s favorite movies have you seen?” list that’s been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.
Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn’t on here in 2013 or so, but you’re telling me you made a list of “tumblr’s favorite movies” that doesn’t include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.
I’m a ridiculous human and genuinely couldn’t sleep until I tried my hand at a better, more balanced list – though of course, I have my own biases when it comes to what corners of this website I’ve lurked in over the years. For what it’s worth, I did consult the last several Years In Review, while also drawing on the fact that I’ve been here for over a decade. But if there’s anything that truly doesn’t feel like it should have made the cut, blame my mutuals for putting it on my dash all the time.
(And apologies, but I couldn’t seem to find Goncharov among the website’s listings)
