Titanium and its alloys are colored by electrical anodizing in an acid electrolyte solution. The oxide layer that forms on the component’s surface can be tightly controlled between 200 and 900 nm which allows control over the color appearance of the oxide layer. Besides color, the oxide film also makes titanium highly biocompatible for medical implants, as well as a diffusion barrier and electrical insulation.
