Originally built as legendary banking tycoon J.P. Morgan's private library, it houses a preeminent collection of rare books, artwork, and illuminated manuscripts, such as three copies of the Gutenberg Bible, the first book ever to be printed on a movable type press in 1455. In addition to ongoing exhibitions of medieval and Renaissance artwork, contemporary artists like Matthew Barney have also shown their oeuvre in this majestic turn-of-the-century space.
