In this blog post I demonstrate how to paint a landscape that features a mountain river. This painting is inspired by the Fiordland area of New Zealand, a mountainous region that is an excellent subject for landscape paintings.Suitable for oils and acrylics.

This has been one of my favorite locations for a large number of my river paintings! It is a tucked away river in the woods in upper Vermont where I grew up in a dairy farm. I can still remember hiking down a steep hill on our property over a stone wall into the cool forest and coming up to the bank of the river, hearing the gurgling water and the sweet smell of the pines!
