The Polish national wardrobe is filled to the brim with embroidered dresses in all possible colours as well as Gorals, hard-soled leather moccasins called ‘kierpce’ and ornaments from red beaded necklaces to fancy peacock feathers from Kraków. Hanging next to stripy woollen and felt attire, we find the finest silk, cashmere and colourfully threaded ornamental lace.

Onion domes?! A touch of Eastern Europe! This summer we were travelling around Poland and I really found myself interested in the crafts that are such a strong part of the culture. Paper crafts in particular. At present papercuts are very fashionable in the UK and there is such a tradition of these in Poland. To some, Poland is a country of grey apartment blocks, winter and… polar bears. Well, it might be for those who never heard about Poland and its rich culture. But if you saw Eurovision 2014 or if you’ve already visited Poland and managed to stop by a souvenir shop, you probably know that there’s a lot of colour and adornments to our craft!
