Kayemba reached out to me. They haven’t had much progress with their fundraiser. <3 Here is him speaking about what has led to this situation.
VETTED!
So far…
We thank anyone who takes the time to donate and share this campaign!
$13,900/$25,000
This is a community of LGBTQ+ refugees who are suffering. Recently, some of our members have been jailed for fighting back against people stealing their shelters at night, and they were tortured in lock up. Cases involving refugees, especially LGBTQ+ people, are often ignored or met with violence.
They are deep in the desert surviving on tea leaves and hot water, porridge for the kids, breastfeeding mothers and those who are HIV positive.
Donations will go towardsstockpiling food, paying for hospital bills, negotiating with officers and setting up shelters.
Thank you to all that continue to support this fundraiser, it means the world to us.
Due to the destabilisation in Sudan, and the massive cut in funding from the US, our group of refugees is being forced out of the encampment to go nowhere.
They are claiming UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) brought them to the camp without their approval.
They have TEN days.
Update
One of our members were attacked by homophobes. His arm has been dislocated and we need $800 for treatment.
they could have said, like, “we made a new wolf morph, which shows how far genetic science has advanced”. they could have said, “we’re calling them direwolves out of a love for the extinct species.” maybe too much to ask for but would have loved it if they’d pointed out some kind of ecological niche they were theoretically intent on resolving - like, “wolves are having trouble adapting to human sprawl and we are hoping that our research into the past will help us save wolves in the present.”
but alas they did not do this. and see this sucks because i want to be hype about new bigass fantasy wolves. there is a 7th grade version of me that would be ecstatic about this. she would be obsessive.
unfortunately, due to capitalism, now i gotta have beef with puppies. can you imagine.
I wonder if he was running on instinct… I watched a man die on the subway a few years ago. It’s more common than you think - NYC subways carry millions and millions in the course of a day. People die and there is never a good time for it to happen to anyone.
There was an older gentleman sitting across from me on the M train. It was about 6:30am, so I didn’t think much of it when he started leaning over. It was when he kept going when most people would jerk awake that about 5 of us took action. We asked if anyone knew CPR in our car, and when we pulled into the next station, we held the doors open and shouted for a doctor (there was a firefighter on the train with us who knew CPR, because that’s how things are in NYC). No response during CPR. The older gentleman’s lips were turning blue.
When the ambulance arrived, the paramedics took over and after 2 minutes of no reaction, I watched something that will always haunt my soul existentially, the way this pic does: The paramedic yelled at this man that he had to get up because he’d be late for work. And he got a response. I don’t know if the older man made it, but he had a pulse when they took him up the stairs to the ambulance.
We all got back on the train and headed off to work. And I sat there completely traumatized by the fact that this man was such a slave to his job that the threat of being late to work restarted his heart. It’s been over 10 years and I’m still not sure how or to what degree it affected me. Only that it did. I’m not bothered by not knowing. Sometimes you have to let the heavy sit to understand the weight before you can put it down.
Hot fandom discourse take but framing dark content as only being acceptable if its a vehicle for exploring personal trauma is just giving ground to the puritan segments of fandom.
Simply liking dark content for its own sake is perfectly fine.
> girls scared of being rejected by the one they love
needless to say this applies both to fiction and real life. it’s weird to treat real people like that
now call me crazy here but this post is actually a bit of a weird fucking place to do a whole “you have to do it scared. you have to just tell her how you feel” speech.
yes thank you for adding that to my post about how weirdly judgmental people are about both real and fictional lesbians struggling with an incredibly valid worry in a homophobic society, that’s super helpful and not even slightly dismissive and annoying!
the problem was just that they’re useless lesbians who are too afraid to communicate and need to get over it! how could i have missed that? wow! it’s so obvious now that it’s pointed out
if you learn to love bugs with all your heart the world will feel half as hostile and a thousand times as big
Theres a sentiment I’m noticing in the tags that I’d like to address. I dont think learning to love bugs with all your heart means forcing yourself out of discomfort you have with them overnight. It’s about observing a different sort of being going about its life and deliberately trying to reframe your observations through a sense of wonder and delight. It’s about cultivating a positive interest and curiosity for their ecology and behaviors. It’s especially about trying to uncouple the value we find in them from how ‘convenient’ they are to us; to face head on the part of us that wants to assign moral evil to another organism who just happens to live life in a way that is not harmonius with ours. You can love insects in this way and still recognize your own health and safety needs. We are animals living side by side within a biosphere. This is how it is, sometimes.
I think this is important to cultivate because, if you are alive at all, you are coming into conflict with countless other people and things that dont owe you an apology for their existance and needs. If you are alive at all, you are encountering countless other people and things that harmful bias and personal discomfort have made repulsive to you. This is about bugs, but its also about way more than bugs.
It’s hard to explain to the uninitiated that you can just go for a walk just about anywhere with a bit of green (and sometimes even in the heart of a city) and find like a dozen neat little unique guys if you’re patient and observant.
People get really into bird watching but here’s a secret: bugs are WAY easier to find than birds and they let you get a lot closer.
Try to approach the world with wonder and curiosity rather than fear and revulsion. Bugs are a great place to start.
like I’m sorry but I will keep posting about this until people stop being cunts and shitheads so I think we’ll be here a good while. every time I talk about the colonial framing of australia and how colonialism is at work in modern day understandings of this country I only need to count to ten before every european and usamerican in sight starts spouting complete bullshit. why don’t you all take a deep breath and examine why the fuck you’re so wedded to the idea of australia you have in your head
“suggesting that Australia has uniquely hostile flora and fauna isn’t wrong” FACT CHECK:
what do you mean by “uniquely hostile”? is it based on amount of harm to humans? because I can tell you now. horses killed more people in 2023 than spiders did. how would you feel if I said that europe introduced the uniquely hostile horse to the australian environment?
can you please give me a list of examples of flora and fauna that you would place in this category?
“aboriginal tribes” FUCK OFF!
if you can capitalise Australia you know how to capitalise Aboriginal
“tribes” is not the right word here even remotely. try again next time. “Aboriginal people” would be a great start. being able to name even one country or language group would shock me to death. give it a go though
“marsupials reign supreme” don’t make me laugh
CHECK: why are you using language that inherently ascribes a particular morality to animals? what motivates you to frame Australia as uniquely ‘ruled by animals’? what else might this imply and where might this framing have come from?
“most venomous and hostile” why are you putting those adjectives together?
Australia’s most venomous snake (the inland taipan) has not killed a single person in recorded history because of how rare it is for that snake to come anywhere near humans. again, refer to the stats above
“hostility” is another example of ascribing negative moral values to an animal where it is not at all appropriate
“one of the less hospitable places on earth” colonialism check!
hospitable to whom?
you mean that pre-colonial Australia didn’t follow western ideals of housing and agriculture don’t you? (<- there very much was agricultural practices in First Nations groups for the record)
you’re implying that the land had to be tamed by colonisers, aren’t you?
come on. be so for real right now
I get the idea of colonialist implications of some word choices mentioned there, but I wonder if the animal reign comments are poetic license being taken literally
it absolutely wasn’t meant literally, but one still has to consider the word choice implications here, especially when they echo very old colonial sentiments. the imagery of a land ruled by animals is imagery but those images are so commonly appealed to because it maps onto preexisting ideas about Australia being an inherently wild and untameable landscape. metaphors are also choices that matter, regardless of their non-literal intentions
like I dunno man, maybe being a part of some kind of customs union with other european nations would be a good first step. just a thought tho I don’t know anything about how any of this works ofc
I feel like no amount of Tumblr Trans Discourse Lore can genuinely be sufficient to explain that there is an entire type of guy obsessed with an ill-defined group of Evil Trans Women referred to by an Old English word that’s also the linguistic root of the word “bad”
The fact that the term this type of guy uses is the etymological root of the word “bad” is bananas, but otherwise no I can absolutely believe there’s a type of guy who “loves all women, except for a Very Evil subset of women who criticize my misogyny,” and it’s a very short leap to apply that phenomenon to trans women specifically.
shaking women by their shoulders with all my strength, screaming YOU DONT NEED TO GET PERMISSION TO BREAK UP WITH SOMEONE!!!!
you can choose to break up with someone for any reason. and it’s your choice. you’re allowed. you don’t need to ask for permission. you don’t even need to do it in person. you won’t get in trouble. in fact, most of the time you’ll be in trouble for fucking staying.
they don’t even have to suck! you can just be tired! or bored! or want to be single! you don’t have to stay with a person you don’t want to be with because they “are such a good person and haven’t done anything wrong”!
WHY DO I KEEP TALKING TO WOMEN WHO ARE STUCK IN RELATIONSHIPS THEY DONT WANT TO BE IN
