They are easy to germinate, although unlikely you will get fruit in England unless you have a large, warm space for the tree to grow. You may also need patience, as it can take a good few years for it to bear fruit. 
That said, I do know a place near me in Devon who has an avocado tree, grown from a supermarket fruit, that regularly crops every year. 

Even if they don’t produce fruit, they make beautiful #houseplants if grown in a pot indoors
