How to mount hand embroidery on a cardboard canvas: tutorial

Once your needlework is finished and you decided that you want to use it as a wall decoration, you have few options on how to do that: making it a hoop wall art, framing or mounting on a canvas. Today I prepared a tutorial for the latter one (this is a lengthy post, you were warned). Mounting Hand Embroidery. Why? So, why would you want to mount your needlework on a canvas? Once done, remove from frame and trim edges around design about an inch and a half from where the design stops. 2. Set aside the embroidered art, and find a piece of stiff board or cardboard. Take the backing of the picture frame and trace a template that you will cut out. Cut the cardboard piece slightly smaller than the picture frame backing to leave ample room for the fabric that will wrap around it. 3. Place the cardboard on the back of your design and line it up to the design perfectly. 4. Begin to stitch up the back in a “corset style”. I use 6 strands of thread in a colour similar to the fabric, and a larger needle to help me pull it through easily. Welcome back to my #PhotoEmbroideryTips series— I’m currently sharing all my favorite supplies for embroidering printed photos. First, place your photo on some sort of backing material like corrugated cardboard, craft foam, or foam core board. Then press your hole making tool through your photo and into the backing material. This tool could be a regular embroidery needle (but protect your fingers with a thimble!), or better yet a sewing pin with a round head, or even better! I recommend a fine-tipped awl. Three things I love about this particular awl are: 🤍 I can hold it like a pen, which saves my sore fingers and hand muscles.
