The Jewish commanders (in Hebrew: סרן, Seren) of the Hasmonean Dynasty Army were elite nobles or members of the Royal Family, or veterans and ordinary soldiers who received the honor through their service or for having accomplished a great feat in battle. Its breastplate was composed of scales and a steel breastplate, a bronze helmet adorned with plumes and antelope horns. Commanders responded both to the Warlord (in Hebrew: אלוף, Aluf) and to the Hasmonean King-High Priest.
