GIULIA TOFANA: 17th century Italian pioneering feminist and retailer of bespoke poisons. She sold her lethal invention, aqua tofana, largely to ladies who wished to be rid of their husbands. It became a family business with her daughter also involved in the trade. They were allegedly responsible for 600 deaths, mainly of married men. Despite her popularity with the general public Signora Tofana was denounced and executed by the Papal authorities in 1659.
