‘O’Dessa’ Trailer: Sadie Sink Brings Light To Darkness Through Song In SXSW-Bound Searchlight Rock Opera From ‘Patti Cake$’ Helmer Geremy Jasper

Sadie Sink in 'O'Dessa'

Searchlight Pictures has debuted the first trailer for O’Dessa, its rock opera marking the sophomore feature of Patti Cake$‘s Geremy Jasper, which is set to premiere on Hulu March 13, after world premiering at SXSW.

Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the psychedelic musical fantasy follows a farm girl on an epic quest to recover a cherished family heirloom. Her journey leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets her one true love — but in order to save his soul, she must put the power of destiny and song to the ultimate test.

Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink plays the title character, who at the beginning of the trailer ventures through what appears to be a wasteland. “The world has gone mad out there,” she’s told. “Ain’t safe for a gal with stars in her eyes.”

“My daddy used to tell me my singing had the power to bring light to the darkness and change things,” O’Dessa tells us. We later move with her through Satylite City, which she’s told is “a depraved and sinful place,” striking up a romance with a character named Euri Dervish (Kelvin Harrison Jr.).

We’re also introduced to Plutonovich, a despot played by The White Lotus‘ Murray Bartlett, as well as his follower, Neon Dion (an unrecognizable Regina Hall), figures O’Dessa will lead a revolution against.

“This world is cruel, O’Dessa,” Euri tells O’Dessa, who responds, “Maybe it doesn’t have to be.”

Jasper directed O’Dessa from his own script, also writing and producing 16 original songs for the film along with Jason Binnick — his collaborator on the critically acclaimed Searchlight dramedy Patti Cake$, which earned DGA and Independent Spirit Awards nominations. Michael Gottwald and Noah Stahl are the film’s producers.

Searchlight is coming off the Christmas Day release of A Complete Unknown, its Bob Dylan biopic from filmmaker James Mangold, which is currently up for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture. While the specialty label also has titles like In the Blink of an Eye, Rental Family and The Roses coming up for distribution, its release schedule for the rest of 2025 currently remains up in the air.
