Any travel advice site will tell you to travel like a local, but honestly you should local like a traveller. Go out with wide eyes and curiosity. Visit museums and parks and art galleries, try out the overpriced but highly rated restaurants that only tourists visit, take photos and video, stop to read those heritage information signs, treat yourself to an ice cream on a hot day. Don't let tourists be the only ones who take joy in your home.

hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???

Today on clownery from my fraternity: I started “pavlov training” this guy from my frat as a joke but now it’s actually working

Context: This guy from my frat (I’m in a coed academic frat) is really into geography, and he’s been trying to learn all the state capitals of Brazil. I happen to be Brazilian, so I’ve been helping him learn them along with pronunciations. One day I was eating a pack of m&ms and decided to quiz him. If he got the question right he got an m&m, and if he got it wrong I’d eat it. Thus a tradition between us was born. If I’m eating a snack I’ll quiz him a bit and give him a tiny treat if he’s right.

Anyways, today I was in our frat lounge eating some m&ms by myself, kinda minding my own business. I eventually got really bored and wondered what would happen if I gave everyone in a lounge an m&m except for him, so I did that. He noticed and then started dropping every Brazilian state capital he could think of, getting increasingly desperate until he just started naming random Brazilian cities. A few of them he repeated multiple times to get the perfect pronunciation. It was like watching a dog do every trick it knows in rapid succession, just hoping something would get a treat. I eventually gave him a few m&ms and started wondering what the hell I’ve done

"Mary visited London for the last time to celebrate the wedding of her eldest daughter, Lady Frances Brandon to Henry Grey, Marquess of Dorset, who descended from Thomas Grey, the elder son of Elizabeth Woodville (Queen of Edward IV) by her first marriage to Sir John Grey. Frances and Henry were to become the parents of the nine-day queen of England, the ill-fated Lady Jane Grey, who was executed on the orders of Queen Mary I. Recent research suggests that Lady Jane, the eldest, was not born at Bradgate but at the Dorsets’ London residence, on a date somewhat earlier than the usually suggested date of October 1537. The few verifiable contemporary comments on her appearance note that she was slight, and pleasant-looking. The prevailing perception was certainly that she was formidably intelligent and well-educated. The Dorsets appear to have been determined that their girls should develop practical and intellectual skills.

That Jane was also spirited and had a mind of her own even at a young age is evident from the correspondence of her learned tutor, John Aylmer, of whom she spoke fondly, with the Swiss reformer Henry Bullinger, who had sent to Jane and her father ‘a little volume of pure and unsophisticated religion’, with a dedication. Aylmer wrote to Bullinger that young people’s minds needed the counsel of older people and serious influences, thanking Bullinger for his contribution to Jane’s ‘improvement’. Tellingly, he employed the metaphor of ‘bridles for restive horses’.

Katherine, the Dorsets’ second daughter, traditionally considered the beauty of the family, is shown in the miniatures by the Flemish-bornminiaturist to the English court, Levina Teerlinc, as a fair-complexioned, golden-haired young woman, almost the stereotypical English rose.
