Yeah, personally, I feel that what makes the humour and tone of Disco Elysium is how simple and candid the deliveries are. There are a lot of beautiful descriptions from the narrator, which contrast hard with what actually happens in real time on screen, and I think a lot of the both serious and comedic effects come from this. It feels “shockingly” real, human and realistically strange despite the poetic descriptions. And I mean… you’ve seen what I think would happen. I think we have a similar idea here.

Yeah, to be honest, I’ve found that part kinda disheartening, too. I know that there’s no ill will behind it, and I’m sure people are just excited to see something they relate to and are using their own preferred language for it, but I made this comic with the perspective of my friends who don’t feel comfortable with those words. I’m all for people finding their own sort of comfort in their own spaces, but I do kinda feel it’s a bit tone deaf to read that sentence and then ignore what it’s telling about some people’s experiences. At least I feel that maybe this comic isn’t the appropriate one to disregard that perspective on. Especially because, for all anyone knows, I could’ve made this comic from my own perspective, and then I’d be the one forced to read terms I’m uncomfortable with again and again.

But alas, that’s the way things are when you post online.

Thank you very much! I’m really positively surprised at the reception. It was one of those projects that took a very long time, and it’s sort of a stereotype that whatever you spend a long time on will receive no interest, while anything quick gets loads of attention. I was fully expecting this comic to be seen by 50 people at most pff.

I like to explore different possibilities for characters, but to me, it has always been important that these ideas seem believable, as though they could work within the narrative we know already. For that reason, I really wanted the comic to feel as close to the game experience as possible, as though you’re experiencing an extension of it through a different medium. I’m happy to see that so many people felt it was faithful to the game.

There is actually a (probably single page) part two idea I have written down. I have 4 little DE comic ideas written down that I’d like to do, actually. What I’m short on is time and peace to actually work on them, so truly, any subs to my kofi will help see these ideas realised. Please consider it.

I do also want to write a DE fanfic at some point, but I haven’t found a plot yet that I’d be interested in exploring. I’m also a painfully slow and perfectionistic writer, so despite taking 3 months to finish that comic, I would probably provide another comic faster than a fanfic haha
