“I have the luxury of having a great life, I don’t need more. I don’t do this for money. I do this for the pleasure and the big chance that you have to connect with others. So, if you’re gonna go out and tell people they have to sit down and listen to something you have to say for two hours…  it should matter.” — Diego Luna, Malibu Magazine

    DIEGO LUNA ALEXANDER

    Born 29 December 1979.

Diego Luna is a Mexican actor, director, producer, and activist. From a young age, Luna performed in plays and appeared in several Mexican telenovelas before landing his breakout role as Tenoch Iturbide in the critically acclaimed 2001 film Y tu mamá también. He has since appeared in films like Milk, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, The Terminal, Rudo Y Cursi, Frida, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He also starred in the first two seasons of Narcos: Mexico on Netflix and lent his voice to several animated works such as The Book of Life and Maya and the Three.

Luna has also expressed a deep respect for film directing. Among several other projects, he directed and produced the 2014 biopic Cesar Chávez, directed and co-wrote the 2016 film Sr. Pig, and created and directed the 2021 Netflix comedy series Todo va a estar bien.

A passionate activist, Luna created the Amazon Prime Video talk show Pan y Circo in 2020 for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Talent in a Spanish Language Program. As the show’s host, Luna and six guests sit for a meal prepared by a notable Mexican chef and discuss relevant political topics. The show is produced by La Corriente del Golfo, a production house based in Mexico founded by Luna and Gael García Bernal, a fellow Mexican actor and Luna’s longtime friend.

Luna has been a fan of the Star Wars films since childhood, citing the first film, A New Hope, as his favorite. He will be reprising his role as the Rebel Alliance intelligence officer Cassian Andor in the 2022 Disney+ spinoff series, Andor.
