Sacrifice to the gods was a part of Ancient Mayan culture, similar to the sacrificial culture of the Aztecs and many ancient cultures. Political and religious leaders performed sacrifices in public; piercing softer parts of an animals body, collecting the blood, and smearing onto an idol, which was then burned. Sometimes, blood would be taken from youths and women for the sacrifice, along with other non elite mayans.Human sacrifice wasn't prevalent, but evidence suggests that it did happen…
