We looked at the class treaty we made in Term Three with Donna and decided we really liked the ideas we came up with. We needed to get our teacher, Kathryn is sign it with us! We thought that the promises we made really help us to focus on our learning and have a happy, friendly classroom! We talked about what RESPONSIBILITY feels like, looks like and sounds like in the classroom.

Classroom expectations, rules, norms, or promises don’t necessarily need to be taught as you would teach a routine or procedure step-by-step. 

It’s more like holding a class discussion and coming to a common understanding of what the expectations are, if everyone agrees upon them, and what they mean. 

Here is a sequence you might follow when introducing classroom expectations the first week of school: 

Day 1: Introduce the expectations you have chosen for your class or allow the class to come up with them together. 

Day 2-5: Go deeper with each expectation by highlighting one per day to discuss and provide examples.
