Hjalmar Eilif Emanuel Peterssen was a Norwegian painter. He attended the Johan Fredrik Eckersberg School of Painting in Oslo in 1869. In 1871 he left Oslo to study at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. Later that year he moved to Karlsruhe, where he was a student of Ludwig des Coudres and Wilhelm Riefstahl at Die Grossherzoglische Kunstschule .
