Norah here has a natural tendency towards putting her arms up, that’s why I have swaddled her with her arms tucked in closer to her face. If your baby is more relaxed with their arms by their sides, that’s where they should stay when you swaddle them. No one is born with the ability to swaddle effectively, it takes lots of practice. Hey I’m Courtney, a mother baby nurse and mom of 3 👋🏻

Swaddling with swaddle blankets is not easy and can be very challenging, especially for first time moms (with my first baby I asked every person who came in the room to teach me how to swaddle).

Here are the exact steps to take when swaddling your baby:

👶🏼 lay your blanket down in the shape of a diamond

👶🏼 fold the top corner down

👶🏼 place the baby on the blanket, place shoulders at the fold

‼️ you want to make sure the blanket is at or below their shoulders and not above to prevent the swaddle from coming up over baby’s mouth and nose
