Richard Arlen (1900–1976) was from St. Paul, Minnesota, and at the age of twenty-five, crashed his way into Hollywood stardom—literally. While working as a delivery boy, Arlen smashed his motorcycle into Paramount’s studio gate and managed to parlay his injuries into work as an extra, and eventually into starring roles.
