The bane of witches and diviner of the future or more likely made into a jelly, the Rowan is an elegant tree with a mystical history. Supposedly planted near houses to protect against witches, the berries are a rich source of autumnal food for many birds. Supposedly if the rowan berries are out early, we can expect a hard winter. They are, however, beautiful to look at and are a centuries-old ingredient in Scottish cooking. #kitchen #locallysourced Autumnal Food, Rowan Berry, Rowan Berries, Rowan Tree, Big Garden, Northern Europe, Cooking Kitchen, Perennials, Jelly
