Old schools chairs like this are kind of inherently cool. But not many have survived that are in good enough condition, without rust and wear, to use as is, especially around kids. Kate found a few of these chairs in her Grandfather’s garage and decided to give one a makeover as a gift for her niece. We started with folding chairs, then upgraded to a pair of $3 yard sale chairs, followed by a a set of four hand-me-down chairs (that never made the blog. oops.). We loved the set of four for it's style (and as we've grown to a family of four we needed it!) but they were pretty old and decrepid. Chair makeover - from rough "school" chairs to quirky dining room set. I used spray glue and a glue gun to adhere the fabric to the chairs, then covered with a couple coats of modge podge for a hard finish. Considered painting the legs but decided that the original brass finish kept it from looking too "Beetlejuice". Chairs were $3 a piece at the thrift store, and the fabric was another thrift find that I was waiting for the perfect project to use :)
