About the Earl

tl;dr about: here.

I’m Malcolm. I also go by Mal and Arthur, and you can call me Earl if it’s easier. I use he/him/his pronouns/masculine forms of address. I’d like to reclaim the word ‘gentleman’ as a self-descriptor and if you call me one I will probably love you forever.

I’m a trans man living in the United States. I’m a professional author and an amateur artist. I enjoy reading, writing, drawing, roleplaying, collecting dolls and books, fibercrafts, and playing video games.

My best friend and long-running RP buddy is Ceci. She’s an incredible person and really smart.

I’ve published a couple short stories- you can buy them on Amazon or Smashwords. I’ve also written Running with Rats, a dieselpunk web serial, though it’s currently on hiatus. I write fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal fiction, and have been branching out into kidlit. I’d like to write a book that changes someone’s life for the better.

I’m a transhumanist and interested in the social implications of science fiction.  I’ve got an affinity for vampires, fallen angels, sorcery, witchery, goth fashion, and the occult. I also really, really like tea.

My main fandoms are Discworld, Bloodborne + Dark Souls, doll collecting, classic lit, Homestuck, Cultist Simulator, the Legend of Zelda, Interview with a Vampire/The Vampire Chronicles, Dracula, Star Wars, renaissance!Twilight, Bioshock, Welcome to Night Vale, Dragon Age, The New Albion operas, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Alice in Wonderland, and comics-related-media of all stripes. I’ll occasionally post some Pokemon and Animal Crossing stuff, and things that make me think of my friends.

I don’t often tag things, but if you have triggers, let me know and I’ll try to mark them. I make social justice or sj-critical posts sometimes. I try not to let the Discourse take over my blog, but… well, I get angry easily and rant about things. My discourse tag is general-malarkey or the-earl-has-an-opinion.

To round this off, a few warnings: I don’t have much patience for groupthink; I escaped a cult, and I call culty behaviour out where I see it. That includes cultiness-in-the-name-of-social-justice. I don’t like bullies, I don’t like cruelty, and I don’t think anyone should be picked on for their identity. Yes, this includes identities like “white man” and “cis person”, and it also includes identities like “furry”, “otherkin”, and “person who uses non-standard pronouns”.

Lastly, I swear like a wounded pirate, and I won’t stop that for anyone. If these things cramp your style, my blog may not be for you.

Hope you find something you like here.
