Benefits
EGA provides a wide array of services, conferences, and support to maximize the impact of our members’ work. Members of EGA can:
Access to the full EGA network to develop working groups to help you better understand your role, sector issues, and to further your impact as a grantmaker.
Serve on planning committees for events and submit ideas for member-sponsored sessions
Attend EGA convenings. Membership includes complimentary registration(s), based on your dues giving level, each year:
-This includes our annual Fall Retreat, EGA’s flagship event, convening a broad spectrum of the environmental philanthropic community in learning about issues, collaborating on projects, connecting with new and existing partners, and realigning on our purpose.
-EGA hosts one smaller, focused policy briefing each year to advance a healthy democracy for a healthy planet. These two-day events support collaboration across sectors in philanthropy, movement, and government.
Participate in EGA’s new and emerging cohort-based programs:
-The Executive Grantmaker Fellowship, a learning opportunity to support, develop, and deepen networks among foundation Presidents and Trustees;
-The Next Generation Initiative, a program intended to build pathways for BIPOC, mid-career professionals within and beyond environmental philanthropy.
- Join and/or help organize monthly EGA webinars free of charge on relevant themes and issues
- Vote on organizational matters, such as electing Board Members
Access EGA’s interactive website for up-to-date information on EGA news, events, meetings, and publications, as well as member-only resources, including:
-The ability to search more than 180,000 grants through our searchable and interactive Tracking the Field grants database, find like-minded partners via the grantor and grantee Directory, as well as member-only reports containing cutting-edge research analyzing the latest trends in environmental philanthropy.
-The EGA listserv, an active forum allowing members to make announcements, discuss current issues, and organize around emerging events
- Coordinate with key affinity groups within and beyond environmental philanthropy, including our working group, the Blue Sky Funders Forum.
- Network year-round through EGA events and resources, as well as partner events
Membership Criteria
All members of EGA, whether a foundation, giving program or individual, must:
- Give at least $50,000 for environmental issues amongst at least five (5) groups per year;
- Grant out more funds (on environment and in total) than raised for internal expenses; and
- Have programs and practices that help achieve EGA’s ultimate goal.
Entities that grant funds but do not act primarily as grant-making institutions are not eligible for membership.
Interpretation of these criteria is at the discretion of the EGA Staff and Board of Directors. The Staff and Board also reserve the right to review a member’s fulfillment of these criteria at any time.

EGA Members, Organizational Support, and Event Attendance
An EGA member is a donor or foundation who has applied for membership and been approved for membership by the EGA Staff.
EGA members are invited annually to donate funds in the form of dues or grants to help support the organization. This is voluntary, and the suggested amount is based on a sliding scale, calculated based on the member’s environmental giving in the previous year. No good or services are received by the member foundation in exchange for these donations.
EGA members may attend EGA events at the discounted member rate, which is also a suggested, voluntary amount.
EGA reserves the right to reconsider a member’s status at any time.
EGA reserves the right to invite members, funder nonmembers, and other individuals as guests to EGA events, meaning no registration fee is requested.
