a lot of stories treat romance like it makes the relationship between two characters self explanatory and to be honest it doesn’t

    story: they're in love :)

    me: why?

story: what do you mean? they're in love :)

me: what do they bring to each other's lives? what do they admire about one another? what draws them to each other?

    story: love :) :)

me: ok... so what is that going to look like now?

    story: like love :) :) :)

me: are their personalities going to clash at all? are they going to have arguments? learn to compromise for each other? will they need to adapt to sharing their life with another person? is it going to be smooth perfect harmony from day one? are they going to be always together? see each other sometimes as their occupations allow? how does this relationship affect their lifes.

    story: they're in love :) :) :)

Artifice & Access: a disability in fantasy anthology.

It’s long been acknowledged that disability representation is lacking in the fantasy genre landscape, so in this cozy anthology, fourteen writers from around the globe come together to bring you wonderful fantasy stories centering disabled and chronically ill characters.

Teeming with magic, otherworldly creatures, discoveries, and journeys, every story is as thrilling and fascinating as it is passionate and meaningful. Worlds are discovered, lives are changed, and swords are drawn.

Disabled and chronically ill characters go questing, fighting dragons, healing, and enacting strange magics. Familiar fairy tales are reimagined, and new fairytales are forged, with each story shattering stereotypes and challenging traditional narratives. Come see yourself reflected—or discover something new.

ARTIFICE & ACCESS is an anthology, a collection of 14 short stories from 14 authors around the world, writing from different disability and chronic illness perspectives. This project started as a way to try and contribute to closing the VAST gap of representation in fiction and authorship in publishing, as well as combat some of the harmful narratives and stereoypes disabled people are often written into; It became a collective effort that has connected new friends, encouraged people to see themselves as worthy of being main characters, and more.

100% of the proceeds from this book go towards continueing the uplifting and promotion of disabled and chronically ill writers.

🎉 We had orange Top New Release banners for a WEEK, and are still ranking in the top 50 releases for YA fantasy short stories.

Update! Luigi's Attorney Dickey confirms that his "outburst" where he tells the cameras that this is unjust, was because he was never read his miranda rights and was under the impression at that time that he was being denied the right to a fair trial, an attorney, or any legal representation.

He is angry and terrified in that footage because they have failed to follow basic procedure to inform him that he has any rights at all. This is a major red flag of police corruption. This is UNACCEPTABLE and further means any interrogation they did of him is unlawful, and inadmissible in court.

God I hope this is true because that alone can get this entire case thrown out. I hope the judge laughs the entire prosecution out of the court.

Judge: let me get this straight. You didn't DNA test him because New York sidewalk is too contaminated, didn't fingerprint him because you don't have usable fingerprints at the scene, you have no way of knowing he's even the right guy, no one can identify that it's him in the footage, even fbi facial recognition software can't recognize him as the cctv suspect, AND you interrogated him under duress, and that's the ONLY thing you have on him? The thing that's defacto null and void because none of you can follow even basic procedure?

ursula k le guin said sci fi/fantasy does not have to be about giant wars or battles of good and evil or galactic disaster; it is best served as a lens through which to examine what is actually intrinsic to the human condition and what, once removed a few layers from our own perceptions & assumptions, begins to fall apart. and she was correct.
