Unspecified source for Image:Elena_Ristevska.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Elena_Ristevska.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. About the deletion of the Hellenism in the near east map

Hi, the author of the image in question was George Soteriadis, according to the description page. According to one of our contributors,

The first search result for "George Soteriadis" on JSTOR is a 1942 paper (Eugene Vanderpool, "An Archaic Inscribed Stele from Marathon") which says in part "... Professor George Soteriadis, who was then doing archaeological work... . In the spring of 1940, at Professor Soteriadis's request, the Ministry of Education ordered the stone to be brought to Athens". Assuming it's the same person (which seems likely), then he has not been dead 70 years.

Ergo, the image was still in copyright in the United Kingdom (the country of origin, which has a copyright term of life of author + 70 years), and Commons policy requires images to be free in both the country of origin and the United States. Given that it was published in 1918 (again, according to the image description), you can upload it to Wikipedia, since WP follows US copyright law alone; this is pre-1923 and therefore public domain in the US. Nikodim Tsarknias

See that the choice of words is very careful in order to respect NPOV (Neutral Point of View). He declares that his "ethnic Macedonian". No problem with that, because he can declare whatever he likes. I can declare that I am from Mars. But when we are referring in general we have to respect the consensus. I thought you reuploaded. Didn't you? It's good to have both maps. Can you find a map showing the other point of view? Maps really make the article look nicer. I won't change your last edits in Tsarknias article even if I disagree. I am sure someone else will do it. I suggest you to read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Macedonia-related articles) very carefully. Many editors around the world worked hard to find a way to write things about Macedonia in a way that respects both countries and keeps a NPOV.

I am just following Wikipedia's policy and I am not getting involved in anything else (I certainly didn't like the "are you insane?" comment in the summary and I think if we both used talk pages more you would be more calm).

You can always write it in way showing that he declares "ethnic Macedonian" but don't present it as a NPOV fact because they are people who disagree. I think you can figure out to say what you want without endless causing edit wars. Cooperation and understanding helps us all to solve our problems and not only in Wikipedia. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Macedonians (ethnic group). Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Very bad advice. Commons is even more strict about copyright than we are. And Makedonij, if you are trying to use commons to evoid scrutiny here and to evade the image upload ban I imposed on you, you are risking to get yourself banned on both wikis. I checked what you did on commons, and most of those images are copyvios again. So, let me now clarify this: from now on, your ban here on enwiki extends also to inserting images you have uploaded on Commons. Don't do that or you'll get blocked. Well thanks Fut P.,you manige to delete them all,even i spent 5 hours madeing them so that wont be copyright!Not single of them were from other sources,than from my own!There are 3 pictures in Macedonian orthodox church maded by my own,one is with my dother in the corner and oltair,pleas remove them to,and all others maded by me,thouse in Macedonian Americans!!But,they are all main and you cant take them from me.THANKS A LOT,your NEUTRALITY is once agin proven!!Makedonij (talk) 19:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Maktruth, the image Image:MakAlbania.jpg is obviously the same image that was published in the Makedonsko Sonce article about Liqenas. Now you claim you are the photographer. Are you a Makedonsko Sonce journalist? Since the image was contained in a commercial publication, the default assumption is the publisher owns the copyright; I'd need licensing clearance from them.

About images like Image:MakAlbaniaFlag.JPG, you can't release them as your own work, even if you technically drew them yourself, it's about the copyright to the design. The design remains the possession of the original owner, most likely the organisation in question. Are you the mayor of Liqenas? Fut.Perf. ☼ 07:37, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Mactruth, it seems you are determined to ignore what "replaceability" means. The relevant criterion is not just whether a free replacement already exists, but whether one could reasonably be created. Your repeated re-insertions of that image in violation of copyright are getting disruptive. By the way, one could also question whether it fulfills a number of other non-free content criteria, including that of minimality of use and of significance of contribution. Since we already have an image of the flag itself, another image that just shows what the flag looks like when hanging on a flagpole hardly adds to the reader's understanding of the article. But that's now an academic point, the replaceability issue kills it anyway, 100%. Just let it go, there's no chance of keeping it. Fut.Perf. ☼ 06:35, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Future Perfect... I think I already wrote my argument done earlier, if it was possible to create an image then someone would have done it by now (obviously). Look, the only complaints I'm getting from are Greeks, it figures that every little error is immediately argued against. I wonder how many Greek photos are under the same situation. If I were to do the same action, it would be reasonable that you would state an argument and simply ignore my statements. The photo contains more then just the flag, it also contains Macedonians, buildings and environment. We had another photo which contained that but it got deleted (I'm sure you had NOTHING to do with it). Anyways, its like an image fully shown and one zoomed in to show just a certain item. (1) The fact that nobody has yet created a free replacement is not proof of impossibility, but of laziness. Tell me again, why would it be impossible (as opposed to just inconvenient) to go there and take one? (2) The complaints you get do not only come from Greeks; you just got one from a German (who happens to be rather sympathetic to Macedonian issues overall, as Greek editors will surely confirm). (3) If you see dodgy images uploaded by Greeks, let me know. (4) Two nonfree images showing the same thing can't be used unless absolutely necessary; like it or not, that's the rules. We have enough contributors who live in that part of the world, so they can go and take the photograph. And no, it's not "keep the image until a replacement is there". Read the policy. Macedonian Template Image

"ethnic" dab

I assume you know that our autonym is "Macedonians" (Makedonci) and not "Ethnic Macedonians" (Etnički Makedonci), so please don't capitalise the E (it should be ethnic not Ethnic). Also, "ethnic" is in no way a qualifier for the language. If you need to dab the language it has to be "Slavic Macedonian" or "Macedonian Slavic". I stated the issue of History of Modern Macedonia speaking only about History of Greek Macedonia several times to multiple Admins. The funny thing is I have contributed WELL to the Macedonia articles and I have been neutral, calm and effective in working with the other people writing Macedonia articles. The problem was ADMINS would not address the History of Modern Macedonia being written only about History of Greek Macedonia, and the article name is still monopolization.
